I recently aquired a model 32 power amplifier and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a preamplifier. Im currently using a 2230 through the pre-out jacks to control it.
The natural choice would be a Model 33, but those are pretty hard to find these days. An excellent alternative is the 3300, which is far more common, less expensive, and very easy to work on.
I tend to agree. Marantz never skimped on the pre-amps on their receivers. With a fresh set of e-caps in just the right places, you'll find the 2230 is a very capable pre amp!
Hmm.
I am at the moment satisfied with the performance of the 2230 in tandem with the model 32 so with that being the case, should the pursuit of a dedicated preamplifier be something I should put on the back burner until absolutely necessary?
Having received a suggestion to invest in speakers, perhaps I should seek guidance in this area as well..
I am currently running JBL L-100's stacked with 4311's. I frequently rotate one of those pairs in and out with a pair of cerwin vega R-24's. (The CV's are equal in sound quality to the JBL's if not a slight bit better) imo of course..
Should I also be content with my current bull pin of speakers or is it of necessity that I seek other avenues of potential loudspeaker upgrades?
When I got my first Model 240 amp, I drove it with my 2270 preamp for a couple of years before I found a decent 3300 pre-amp, so I'd say it's perfectly fine to use your receiver as a pre-amp until the right one comes along at the right price (plus, you have a tuner there already!)
I'm now running a pair of L100's and I'm quite satisfied with them, so you'll have to find some more opinions about that.

I've got one on the bench right now. There's no switch, it powers when there's line power and after a short delay to mute it, the speaker relays close. Probably meant to pair with a preamp with a switched outlet.
