Marantz, Sansui, or Yamaha?

Consider the price, I will definitely pick Yammy!!:banana:

I think you may miss the Yammy deal already.

You missed out on one hell of a deal with the SR-929 and the 8080..if that was the price for both.

I think they are all nice sounding units but are a little steep for CL. Just my two cents. If I had to pick one it would be the Yamaha, it's the only TOTL (the CR3020 came out a year after the 2020 was introduced, and is quite rare) out of the three.

Not into turntables so doesn't really matter to me. Just want a little more power.

A little more power generally isn't noticable. If you want more power, you want twice what you've got.

The three units have different voices, but the Yamaha is a high quality unit, and the highest power, and I'll bet it's the one for you, if you can still get it.

The Yamaha will surely double the power. If another AKer beats me to these, it is Ok with me. Not a need just a want. I'm guessing that the Yamaha is probly the best deal since it is closer. It's funny when I spoke to the seller he refer me to here.

I would get the one with the least issues. The guy selling the Yamaha is selling many others, it could be a good choice.

My two cents..... I have never heard a Yamaha unit, but I have owned both Marantz and Sansui and there is no comparison for me, the Sansui beats Marantz hands down. That said, it depends on your preference in tone. If you want crisp and clean, then Marantz is the way to go. If you want full and rich, then Sansui is the better choice.

Now I think that I need to pick up a Yamaha and make it a 3-way shootout!!

Stupid AK............. I would have never said that a year ago!!!!!!!
:dammit:

Those Yamahas are nice units. But frankly, I find everything above a little overpriced. The kind of pricing frenzy one ALWAYS sees on ebay, for example.

Yamaha no more than 300

Marantz no more than 350 (300 would be nice)

Sansui 275?

And even my pricing is "too high" IMHO. All this stuff might need "servicing" and 100-250 dollars of work?

I had the 1020 and still have a 2270. Never heard the 9090 but did like the AU-717/TU-717 combo, and the AU/TU-9900 combo.

The prices are fine. They may be more than some here would pay (including me), but that's irrelevant. If it's worth it to you then it's a good price.

Sound-wise, these are all different. Which sounds "better" is entirely up to you. You have to hear them for yourself, with your speakers. All have their followers. Not to cast aspersion on anyone else in this thread, but my advice is to ignore people who say "A sounds better than B," for two reasons. First, as mentioned above, everybody's ears are different. Second, these units are over 30 years old, with the 2270 pushing 40. To do a real comparison you need to listen to updated/recapped specimens.

I sold the 1020 but liked it and the C4/M4 separates enough to put money into larger Yammie amps. I had my 2270 completely recapped and really enjoy it. If you're buying this to keep and use regularly, budget for a recap. That's MY advice! :music:
