Ask the seller to take the top cover off and take some pictures. It would be interesting to see how original it is.

Oh, yeah Ask if it has feet, I never seem to get feet on any of the amplifiers I buy

Almost certainly YES to one degree or another.... Unless, it was used very sparing and in a very benign environment....even then some maintance will be required.

Think of it like a car, even a brand new car that has never been driven but stored in an benign environment will have some issues....

At some point, yes. Depending on the condition, a unit might be completely usable as you receive it or it might need to be rushed off to the work bench after 2 minutes of testing.

It's not only age that presents problems, it can also be work done by others in the past.

I've had similar experiences with 1200's and 1200B's. They come in with a high level of poorly done "repairs". I think that because of the age of these units and so many people have worked on them over the years, the bad repair work piles up until it's a total mess and finally something gives and poof.

It always seems to be the right channel that's really blown up on the units I get.
 
Someone on ebay is selling a Marantz 240 amp. He says the issue is that one day he went to use it and it didn't power up. He has a few other Marantz items and they seem to have the same issue. All his gear just one day didnt power up. This sounds fishy to me, but has anyone here experienced a sudden issue with one of these things not turning on?

Another dumb question for all - do preamps contribute power output to the overall system? So if I have an amp that is 120 WPC, and a pream that has 20 wpc, does your system now have 150 wpc?
 
No good, give you 50cents a pound including shipping.....


Kidding, little dusty but looks very stock except some replacement trim pots....Try blowing out with canned air....

Thanks. The seller confirmed - no feet. Should this be a deal breaker or is it realistic that I can find feet?
 
Talk to djwojo about the feet , he has replacements. Yup looks pretty stock, it's got those nasty old school pots in it, those things were built for drift :D

Those pics make me want to put the 250 on the bench and look out of curiosity.

So here's what I see. It all looks original, including the clipping trimmers and the DC offset and bias pots.

The relay board has the original relay and all of the caps are probably original, these will need to be replaced, soon.

The biggest problem I see is that there is one blue wire lead and one red wire lead that a have been disconnected from the main capacitors. The ends of the leads have been taped over. This is not a good sign.
