Mats, rubber, cork, felt or rubber/cork?

Hi there!
Wondering which is 'better'.
Do they even make rubber mats? I tried searching but did not find any.

You'll get all sorts of opinions on which is better. It's difficult to sort out because it's technically impossible to A/B test platter mats on the same turntable in real time. You have to consider that slight variations in height will also change VTA. Me personally, I like rubber.

As for rubber mats, the Technics mats are still available and are excellent. KAB has them for $15.

I use the same mat in this thread...works wonders on a metal platter. Other then that I think cork is a good alternative.

I've been making my own out of tanned deerskin and they seem to work very nicely.
They look good as well.

If you have the original rubber mat and it's in good shape I would stick with it. Like a lot of these tweaks I wouldn't expect any game changers and it's possible you could end up with poorer sound or could be a case of different not better.
