Hi Guys,
I need to know right quick...what the heck was the MC30 variable damping kit all about?

Also, How close is the A-116 to an MC30 circuit wise and sound wise???

Thanks!! :scratch2:

Different phase inverter, different output tubes A-116 will sound close to a MC30 but not necessarily the same.
As memory of the variable damping, pot that changes feedback thus the damping factor, have listened to a few and found that the did not help the sound, possibly were used when amp was used to drive a cutting head.

Thanks for the very fast reply Terry!

One more question.....if the 116s sound close to the 30s but "different" because of the tubes and circuit would they be a good buy for a high end audio system???

Thanks!

yes, it's a gold sound power amplifier

When AR introduced the AR-1W and the AR-3 they recommended the best bass performance was from an amp with a lower dampening factor. So Mcintosh and Marantz complied.. The AR woofers being critically damped them selves did need amps with a higher damping factor. Just Macs ML -1c and other ML series that came along later.
