Mcintosh announces New MC601 amps

For kicks, google Kevin M. and MC601. I guessed the name, transistors, almost two years ago. What I do not get is MC851 as a rumored future name for an amp. Seem like MC901, a doubled MC452, like the MC601 is a doubled MC302. What I would like someone to tell me is what size autoformer the MC601 uses? It is one like the MC501 or the big double balanced core like the MC 1.2K?

Take a look at the MC1000. The new amp is very similar. It just has bigger handles. That indeed looks like the same meter.

Not sure how much the MC601 shares with the MC302, as the MC601 is quad-balanced while the MC302 is not. Is nice to see McIntosh get away from that 'girlie-styled' 3-D design crap and get back its manly roots. 
As you mentioned the MC1000, have you noticed that the price of same seems to have jumped considerably the last several months? Generally means the folks in Asia have discovered them.

Yes I noticed the price jump. I like the 3-D glass:sigh: and am going to miss it. Sold my MC501s and guy who bought them was shipping them to Asia! Got a great price too. The MC252 was not quad balanced either. But if you look at an MC501 it is basically on the same chassis as the MC252. Not entirely sure of how it is assembled but if you look at most company's monoblocks, you can find a stereo amp in the line up that is basically the same but instead of stereo, the two channels have been bridged to create a balanced mono signal. That's not exactly what Mcintosh does. Maybe someone can chime in? But what I think they do is take the same approach but then use the autoformer to balanced the design a second time.

Those meters look ridiculous!
The best look I have seen did not come from Mcintosh. The MC501s with after-market handles and the 3D look are the best looking combination I have seen. The older guys loved the handles and really missed them.
