I have seen the McIntosh boxes and they are impressive. Actually a box in a box with plenty of padding.

They used to be free back in the 70s.

and he says they cost $100 a piece, well the one I have gotten are $55. maybe some are more expensive, but most are not $100 as far as I know.

Because I found this thread in 2014 looking for the same sort of thing.

Call McIntosh (800-538-6576). Ask for parts.

I told them what I had, Mx110, and that I needed a box to ship across the country. They checked to see that they could still make the box. Then can.

$55 - I believe that was shipped because she didn't say otherwise, should have asked. It will take a week to get here. 7/21/14

I usually request, no, make that demand that the seller covers the outer box with yet another box to obfuscate any and all indication of what the parcel might be.

Best way to make sure your expensive parcels never show up at their destination is to clearly advertise what's inside.

Good advise and my intent. I ordered the McIntosh box because I believe it will get there and back safely. (I'm sending an Mx110 to Terry for refurb). But if the outside of the box is branded, I will be covering it. I may build a box or I may just skin it with brown paper / spray contact adhesive.
