Memorial Day

And while we're at it, remember that Memorial Day isn't until Wednesday. To most, it's just another excuse for a three day weekend ramrodded thru Congress during an election year, courtesy of the Uniform Monday Holiday Act ...

And no, that's not a political statement ... just fact.

Put my flag up yesterday , only one on the block . Guy next door is a Vietnam vet . Everytime we talk it's hard not to notice the wounds on his face and arms , but he does'nt talk about it . He wont put the flag up , he's a Jehovahs Witness now .

Let us keep politics where they belong. We have an app for that called Political Chat down amongst the banners at the bottom of every page.

This is the holiday that remembers our fallen soldiers and should be observed regardless of present conflict and what someone thinks of it. Honoring the huge sacrifices endured by our kinfolk is a sacred duty of all Americans. Fly your flag, say a prayer or just observe some silent reflection time to honor the Americans who've given their all for us. They deserve no less.

Peace! My brothers & sisters. :tears:

Thanks Wiggy, I salute you, sir. I concur on your previous sentiment expressed. It's all about our fallen and the remembrance of deeds most of us will never be called upon to perform. Take a look at the Medals of Honor roll for some of the most harrowing stories and acts of courage that soldiers commited for their fellows in the fox holes and trenches at home and far from our shores.

We celebrate and remember them and their sacrifices. I hope one day to get to Normandy and to witness those fields of crosses and star of davids that cover that area. The French people honor them everyday from all accounts.

Memorial Day is not about 'celebrating' anything. It's a remembrance of those who died in service to our country.

Exactly, it's about showing respect and gratitude, for our FALLEN soldiers. That's any soldier who ever died in the line of duty, wether you knew them or not. Because they gave their lives, for all Americans, wether we deserved it or not.

Don't forget the Civil War. Memorial Day (then called Decoration Day) was started by John Logan, an Illinois politician who was a corps commander under Sherman in the Army of the Tennessee and the Hero of Atlanta, to honor the soldiers who fell crushing the rebellion.

So give a thought to those fellas who fought at Vicksburg, Chickamauga, Gettysburg, the Wilderness and Atlanta so that, as another Illinoisan put it "government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth".

You're right Bob. I'll help you get this back on track.

The caption to this image doesn't matter so much, it's the picture that I find gripping and powerful.

Decorated my parents and other relatives graves in the last two weeks. Eating scrambled eggs due to my tonsillectomy Thursday.

Going to stay close to home, but will always remember those that fought for our country and gave me the freedom I enjoy.

We've had the greatest military since this Country was formed and we have civilians (and military) who are dedicated to creating the best weapon technology in the World. And it's ashame that someone has take the burden of policing the rest of the World in this day and age. Also, I recently read that 45% of new vets are applying for disability. That's very high.

I remember years back, I took Bethany & Shay-Then maybe 13 & 14- up to the VA in Johnson City. They have a HUGE cemetery there, & we drove thru it. The girls, usually chattering along, got REALLY quiet. Shay said that it REALLY made history REAL for her, seeing the graves of folks who'd died in wars she'd only read about. It wasn't Memorial Day, but at least it got the message across to them. Hey, every now & then, even I do something right for a change..

Hey, several people know me as Uncle Cliff, so I feel obligated to say a prayer for your Uncle Cliff. He sounds like a hell of a good guy. :thmbsp:
