Mlb 2013

Damn, did the Cards open up a can on the Reds in the 10th or what?

I had to shut it off and get to bed when they were starting the 8th tied 4-4. Sorry I missed it. Final 11-4 in 10 innings. I believe that was the first extra inning win for the Cards this year.

Nicasio pitched no hit ball 'til the wheels came off in the 5th...he exits with the Rockies up 4-0. The bullpen gives up seven runs in the 6-8 innnings and it looks bleak for the Rox.

They score 3 in the bottom of the ninth, Gonzalez had a clutch double. Rockies hold them scoreless in the ten and win it with a Fowler(had a four hit game) single with two on and two outs.

Nerve racking, but exciting game. Carlos Gonzalez was great in the field, took a home run, maybe two away and at the plate. Rookie Arenado had a triple and made another spectacular play to throw out a runner at first.

Nationals come in tomorrow for three...hope the Rockies can find some pitching:D. Preston

Pittsburgh has called up top prospect Gerrit cole, who will take the mound and make his major-league debut opposite Tim Lincecum.

Excitied to finally watch this kid take the mound.

Nats and the Rockies, nice. Arenado gets moved to the two hole, and cracks a double in his first at bat. He has been stellar on defense, and his bat has really come back around lately. The kid is a star.

Cards are kind of beating up the Mets tonight. 8-2 in the bottom of the 8th.

It adds so much enjoyment when your team brings up a stud from their system. Gotta love those home grown kids.

Apropo of no other posts in this thread concerning the Dodgers:) , Don Mattingly was a great hitter but doesn't know how to win. All those years with the $Yankees$ and no ring.
A nice guy but without the winning touch, luck or whatever you want to call it!

did you see that brawl?

Mattingly isn't using a bat or a glove, and that is where the Dodgers are falling on their face, with a few notable exceptions. Had a look at the Dodger payroll lately?

I feared that Chacin was going to put the Rockies in a deep hole. Nats have some serious hitters and Haren looked like he had the Rox's batters totally confused.

Tyler Colvin might just stick this time up...two, two run homers:yes:. Now if the Rockies had some starting pitching... Preston

Baseball managers don't generally bat and field but they do manage.
Donnie Ball isn't going to work for this club as waiting for someone to homer in order to produce runs hasn't worked.
Mattingly is unwilling to set up hit and runs, basic sacrifices, bunts. Steals are rare with their few speedsters.
He can't seem to figure out who his closer is even though many knew who isn't and tends to leave relievers in way to long.
Plus he's unlucky in a game involving a modicum of luck and circumstance.

In other words, he's the scapegoat.

The issue of being singled out as the scapegoat in order to get a winner in to manage is the main issue:yes:

It appears that, for the time being, people actually in the baseball industry don't quite agree with the press banter, which steers most fan banter. Mattingly could do backflips through burning hoops and it wouldn't placate anyone as long as injuries and poor player performance has them in last place. He didn't assemble the team, it was handed to him.

Injuries and poor hitting made its ugly appearance early in the season and Mattingly has not shown any evidence in trying to alter his managing style.
Sometimes a manager has to put some plays on to get runs. There have been countless times the Dodgers have men on first and second and no outs, Donnie eschews the bunt only to have a double play happen. Again and again....

If one could point out even a few exceptional, or even consistently good player performances this season (besides the newly arrived sensation Puig), there would be more merit in the argument that the manager is the culprit. If you have a lineup full of long ball hitters and sluggers (that are payed million and millions to do that), small ball isn't necessarily the answer. I think that a shortage of bunting being at the root of the Dodgers woes is a bit of a stretch. Mattingly is demanding that they perform, and they simply haven't thus far. The Nats, for example are in the doldrums too, but, the local press isn't sniping at Davey Johnson and advocating his lynching.
