MLB 2026

As I wait for the Cardinals vs A's game to start in about 45 minutes, I'm checking out the Cubs vs Braves game (two of the best teams in baseball right now) playing each other. It's all tied up at 2-2 in the 5th in a pretty-good game.

It's been a very good year for baseball so far this season. Lots of entertaining matchups and close games.

Oops my bad... it's now 3-2 Braves as they just hit their 2nd dinger in the inning.

Giants have beat Dodgers twice in a row. Usually standing room only, stadium was only 1/2 to 2/3 full from what I could see.

Two more games in this series.

The Dodgers are in a super funk right now.

If you’re already glued to games but want a little extra sweat without overthinking stats every night, I’ve had good luck using wunderdog.com for quick, no-drama picks. It keeps things fun on those nights when my team’s broadcast is blacked out or impossible to watch, and it’s helped me follow matchups I wouldn’t normally bother with.

I think the two best teams right now are the Cubs and the Braves and they just finished a 3 game series this week where the Braves won 2 of 3. There have been some very exciting games played in Atlanta this week forshadowing what could be the battle for the NL.

I noticed the Mets are starting to play better now. They are no longer the worst team in baseball. That honor now belongs to the Angels who started out pretty-good but have fallen back into their traditional fade from contention.

Meanwhile the Cards have surprisingly hung in there and have just won another series 2 out of 3 against the first-place A's. Their pitching continues to improve and their bats are still hot. It will be interesting to see what they decide to do at the trade deadline this year. Ollie Marmol declared this was a rebuilding year and they were going to trade some of their remaining short-term free agents but that might be hard to do if they continue to play like they have. After one of their worst years attendance-wise last year, the Cards fan base might revolt if they jettison their last reamining hopes for a post-season birth if they are still in the running. It will be interesting to see how things play out.

Tonight the Cards start a 3 game series with their cross-state rivals the Royals at Busch.

Wow! What an exciting game. The Cards walked it off in the 11th after the Royals made a pitching change and sizzling-hot Yohel Pozo entered the game as a pinch hitter.

What a difference a year makes. Busch was packed tonight with over 29,000 rabid fans attending. The games on Saturday & Sunday are both about sold-out with over 30,000 tickets already sold for each.

Last year they couldn't give the tickets away.

It figures Harrison Bader would be involved. He's a wild one. It looked pretty-lame to me. If he would have done that creepy stuff while he was a Cardinal I think he probably would have been benched.

With that being said, even though he is a hotdog, Bader is one heck of a player. Definitely a spark plug. He was a Gold Glove Center Fielder as a Cardinal.

One of the more memorable things he did as a Cardinal was to hit a homer into the upper deck (Big Mac Land) and hit a painting sitting on an easel that Fredbird was painting a few minutes earlier. Note the fake fans in the stands - this was during the COVID season. lol

He started out as a Cardinal but has now played for 7 teams in his 10 year career. Hie signed a 2-year $20 million dollar contract with the Giants.

AMERICA'S FAVORITE PASTIME

The 2026 season is here! Will the Dodgers three-peat? Will the Mets turn it around?

Will your team be any good this year? Let's hear what you think.

How can small market teams compete with big market teams? Hard pass.

They do it all the time. Look at the biggest market team with the biggest payroll in all of baseball (The New York Mets).

They are in dead last place.

The Dodgers lost 2 out of 3 against the Cards earlier this year and have 2-1/2 times the payroll of the Cards.

The big market teams with the big payrolls definitely have an advantage but they can't have all the good players because there a lot of them. A lot of young ones too.

How they are managed plays a big role too.

Then there are the intangibles too like unforseen injuries.

Boy I'll tell you, the Cards sure are the Cardiac Kids this year. They were leading the Pirates by two runs going into the 9th tonight at Busch and brought in their closer Riley O'Brien to finish the game and he gave up two hits and hit two batters to blow the save and allow the Pirates to tie the game.

It went to extra innings and in the bottom of the tenth Ivan Herrera hits a 3-run walk-off homer for the Cardinals. You just can't count the Cards out this year so far. They are clutch, even with shakey pitching from time to time.

The Cardinals are now 9 games over .500 and 1/2 game out of 1st place behind the Cubs. Unfreakin' believable in a year they were supposed to suck after trading all their star players away to rebuild.

Iván Herrera's 3-run, walk-off homer in the 10th inning lifts Cardinals past Pirates

Dodger 3-peat is far from assured. The new signings are not working out yet. Tucker is IMO a bad signing. His career numbers are not elite and he is not putting up numbers to justify his pay. Diaz is hurt but he should be good when he gets back. We need to find a position for Rushing so we can get his bat into the lineup. 2nd base is a weakness but Rushing would have to learn a new position. Not going to happen. Anyways, we are .500 over the last 30 games.

Man the Cubs have sure been taking a dive lately. After being one of the hottest teams in baseball, they have now dropped 8 out of their last 10 games to fall from 1st place to 3rd in the NL Central.

Big series starting today in Milwaukee as the 1st place Brew Crew (30-20) take on the 2nd place Cardinals (29-22).

Man the Brewers are beating up on the Cards winning again tonight 6-0 to take the first two games of the 3 game series.

It could be worse though. The Cubs were absolutely destroyed again tonight by the Pirates 12-1 to lose their 10th game in a row. Unbelievable!

Could be. The Giants were supposed to be playoff contenders this year but it's not looking too good. They are looking a lot like the Mets.

The Cards got the broom last night by the Brew Crew. They were winning in the 8th when Mason Winn (their Gold Glove SS) commited a horrible error resulting in 2 runs scored for the Brewers to take the lead... and eventually win the game.

The Cubbies finally broke out of their funk though and won one last night after losing ten in a row.

Big series this weekend in St. Louis when the Cubs come to Busch for a 3-game series with the Red Birds. They are currently tied for 2nd place in the NL Central.

The Giants are a crap sandwich. My Mariners are in first place in the lamest division in MLB. Where you can (temporarily) be at the top with a losing record.

We need Cal Raleigh.
