Isn't that the way it's always been? If you like any professional sports team you aren't going to get to see all their games without paying. Free TV (antenna) is very limited and always has been.

Even if you live in the viewing area of your favorite team, you won't get to see all the games unless you are a cable subscriber. For the rest of the country it costs extra on top of that. NFL, NBA, and NHL are the same way. College sports requires a package like the SEC network or Big10 network etc. to see all the game of your favorite schools too.

Nothing's free. Even when WGN showed all the Cubs games and TBS showed all the Braves games, you still had to subscribe to cable to see them.

One thing that is totally-awesome nowadays though is the availability of the sports packages. When I was a kid all we had was an antenna on top of our house and 4 networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, PBS) to watch. Yeah it was free but we didn't get to see very many games at all. We had to huddle around the radio and listen to the Cardinals and the Cubs.

I'm paying $100 this year to be able to see all 162 games for all 30 MLB teams if I want to. That's a pretty-good deal in my book. I was paying more than that for the NFL package back when I got that and I enjoy the baseball one a lot more. I still get to see a lot of the NFL games and almost all of the college games with my basic cable package so life is good for this sports fan. Back in the old days you couldn't see as many games as we can now for any cost. It just wasn't available.

So if you liked the good old days better, nothings really changed. Just don't pay and you'll still get to see just as many games as you did back then for free.

The only thing that has changed is now you can see all the games if you want to. Before you couldn't at any cost.

Man the Cards pounded the Mets last night in New York 7-0 and again tonight 9-2 to make it 6 wins in a row after getting the broom from the Brew Crew.

Meanwhile after being one of the hottest teams in the league, the Cubs continue to drop like a rock ever since they got their butts kicked by the Braves and are now only one game above .500.

Fortunes can really change fast in MLB.

No Aaron Judge? No problem. The Yankees finished a 3-game sweep of Cleveland yesterday. I'm hoping they can do the same against the Blue Jays.
 
Cardinals bullpen blows it two games in a row. Last night against the Mets 5-4 and tonight against the Twins 9-8.

That's what they need if they want to contend this year. They have everything else except elite pitching.

They'll have a decision to make later this year but realistically could be a formidable playoff team if they decide they want to spend the money.
 
Watch Yoshi Yamamoto almost pitch a perfect game (8 innings).

Amazing that there have only been 24 perfect games in MLB history. A total of 327 no-hit games.

Not true for my market. Brewer away games were all televised on a UHF channel. I can't get any without paying for cable and adding a package which includes FanDuel Sports Network. Doesn't matter much for me tho as I checked out of most baseball after the big strike in the early 90s.

It was still a no hitter until the bottom of the 9th when Tristen Peters led it off with a solo homer.
It was a great game to watch.
Life long Sox fan happy to watch games again after the last two years.

I saw that. It's hard to go through the opposing team's lineup that many times and not give up a hit. These guys are all super players on the highest level and it's hard to keep them down for long.

I used to live in Chicagoland and went to several White Sox & Cubs games, usually when the Cardinals were in town. My Grandfather was a huge Sox fan and I would go with him too.

The White Sox are playing contender baseball, right now. Young and relentless style.

Pittsburgh is playing like that, too.

He was perfect, too — 7-2/3rd innings. No runners. A perfect game's 27-up, 27-down is crazy at any level.

Nolan Ryan pitched 7 no-hitters in his career, but no perfect game. A bionic arm.
 
If you want to see young contender baseball the Cardinals are the team. They traded all their stars away and now have one of the lowest payrolls in the league. Their oldest player is Lars Nootbaar at age 27 and they were projected to be cellar dwellers but have been pretty-consistent all year so far and are in 2nd place with a 38-30 record.

I like how many of the younger players play the game. Most have good baseball IQ. Compared to a few years ago, when there were young players who made headlines but didn't do many of the basic baseball things correctly.

It warms the heart of this old high school player.

Giving up 1st place in the process. At least the hosed the pitcher's no-hitter last night.
