Modelers Corner

Fw190 Dora 9, Pappagallo Protection Squadron.

They protected the Me262 jets when they were landing and taking off.
Thanks for the info. Makes the red a little more acceptable. I can put it next to the 262.

From what I read, the obvious red and white stripes were to help AA crews from targeting the D9s. During combat maneuvers, the wing profile looked like that of a P51.
Makes sense. That's what I thought once it was pointed out that it they were for protecting the 262's at the air field. P-47's used to get friendly fire being mistaken for 190's

Yes. And the nose of a Mustang is long, like the Dora's.

F6F Hellcats were often shot at during those terrible Kamakaze raids in the Pacific. From the ground, the Cat's stout nose looks like a Mitsubishi.

I'll post some pictures of the FW-190 soon. It's into the painting phase now. Maybe another week to finish.

Here's what's up next. This came out in 2022 and is supposed to be a great model.

Nice! In general, Tamiya armor models are good ones. How old is that kit?

Thanks!

Nice job!

What scale are they?

Thanks!
The tanks and other vehicles are all 1/16th. The buildings aren't really any exact scale. I would say most of them are slightly over-scale, somewhere between 1/16 and dollhouse 1/12 scale. These are meant to be durable and stay outside the whole season (some even through the winter) as the old wood buildings had to be set up and taken down each club meet and stored in the trailer

Did you field collect the rocks to make the walls?

Thanks again! :)

Not sure where he gets the rocks. There certainly is no shortage of rocks. It's glacial moraine till. Almost more rocks in it than soil. It's not easy work. Lot's of pick axing and soil screening. But finally after years of work that is mostly a thing of the past after we made some major changes this spring and seem to be settled on the layout. That corner in the pictures is only a small part of the field

Is he a mason?

Went to a couple of car shows today. Both were busts with few cars but at the 2nd one there was a guy with a tremendous amount of die-cast. He had a Jada VW Bus flat bed hauler that I couldn't pass up. Opening doors and engine cover as well as the windshields open. The flat bed extends too. As soon as I saw it thought of the couple of VW Bus's at home and how they'd look good being hauled by it and they do.
