Modern speaker upgrade, please help

Killer. They improved every aspect of performance from my Harbeth's...especially bass.

Just talked to my dealer and she said she can definitely have the Nola Boxer's hooked up to the Brio-R and Apollo-R when I go up. Should be a fun listen. Were I to get the Boxer's in the future they would replace my old Pinnacle AC650's in the living room for summer speakers...windows open and music playing in the back yard in the late evening...not much volume required but a full sound is helpful.

I am looking forward to hearing your impression of the Boxers, especially in conjunction with the Rega Brio-R. I am itching to buy one of those too.

Actually, "she" the boss that is, is out of town it was Howard that I spoke to at Stereotypes. I always want to say "she" when I talk about that place as Teri owns it and I've known her for years.

I won't be ready to buy any new speakers (or anything else) for quite sometime but it would be nice to give that setup a critical listen. If in stock I'll ask to hear the ProAc Studio 115's on the heels of the Nola's. That should be instructive...or at least as much as it can be in an environment outside of my own listening space.
 
Don't form any lasting opinions until the Boxers are run in well. Carl M. recommends a minimum of 100 hours. The set I heard at about 300 or a bit more, if I recall.

OK, I will give em' a good break in. The salesman at Aris Audio where I bought the Boxers also sells Rega gear. I asked him for a comparison between the Boxer and the Rega RS-1's that I have. He said they have a wider, deeper soundstage, more resolution and air, and deeper bass. More dynamic, where the Rega is smooth.

I am listening to my Rega's as we speak (Cowboy Junkies, Renmin Park) and it sounds great. I am really looking forward to hearing how the boxers respond in my smallish listening space.
 
I have a pair of Nola Mini's which are the predecessor to the Boxers. The Mini's are front ported while the Boxers are rear ported. The Mini's have an industrial box while the Boxers have furniture grade boxes. The Mini's are fanstatic speakers. Very balanced, slightly forward sounding and very crisp and easy to listen to as well.

I've owned Infinity Beta 20's, Whardedale Diamond 9.1, 9.2 and Evo 2-8 and 2-10, and VA Grand Haydens and I'm listening to B&W 685's as I write this, and none of them come close to overall performance of the Nola's. I have a CA 840A2 IA driving them. I have exchanged emails with Carl Marchisotto (the designer) and I bought these used. He helped with setting them up. You won't that kind of service from many speaker manufacturers. They are also made in the US! I highly recommend them.
 
The boxers are due in on Friday. My Skylan 24" stands come in probably the week after that since I got them from Canada. I am looking forward to hearing those Nola's in action.

I've mentioned I've been listening to the Rega Brio-R at my friend's hifi shop (AudioLab in Harvard Square, Cambridge).

This, through the excellent Rega DAC.

These things are small- but pack a great sound. It's a setup I could easily live with if I need to continue to downsize.
 
Oh- and congrats on the Boxers!

I've never heard a disparaging word about Nola (and prior to that, Alon) products.

Ah, too late. My wife just called and said they came today. I guess I will have to wait until tomorrow to listen to them.

I am still waiting for the stands to get here anyway.
