My wife and I are rolling down to Pittsburgh tomorrow. I plan to spend a couple of hours at Jerry's records (huge supply of nice used vinyl at GREAT prices) and pick up some more Jazz and 80's alternative. Then I am going to hit a high end audio store while she shops and then take her out for a nice dinner. I just love it when the grandparents take the baby for the day!



I have to be patient and wait for Art's impression of the Nola Boxers. I am so close to pulling the trigger.

BTW, the last time I called Stereotypes and they were listening to the new Apollo-R they had it in a setup with the Brio-R and Boxer's. I'll ask her if she can have that setup when I go up there...depending on how busy she is of course.

A couple of AKers have owned the NHT Classic Three- the Classic Three is half your price budget, but.... the Classic Four tower right at your budget, and boasts some serious bass claims from the slender tower design....

I have heard the NHT Classic 3's. They did have good bass for a standmount. I thought the tweeters were a little harsh at times, but a real nice speaker never the less. I like that entire line of NHT's.

A friend of mine brought over his Classic 3's so we could do a head to head with my Totem Rainmakers and all three of us who were participating thought the Rainmakers sounded better by a ways. The Classic 3 weren't bad but there was something about the crossover. Another friend who is a tech and owned a local HiFi store (which at the time sold NHT) tried to tackle the crossover problem and in the end caused more problems than he solved...and he is the best tech I've ever known. The Classic 3's are a good buy at $500...but I wouldn't pay more...and if you want them you'd have to.

I've heard several of the speakers mentioned in this thread; some impressed me, others did not. The Boxers (and every other Nola speaker I've heard) impressed me. In a major way. Given the horrible listening environment I'm stuck with in my tiny house, the Boxers would make more sense (and probably better sound) than my speakers in the only space I have available. I doubt I'd be at all dissatisfied if I sold the Obelisks and put a pair of Boxers in their place. and that's saying a lot for me. Marchisotto makes speakers that sound like music.

Thank you. I appreciate the input. I found a pair for $1150.00 brand new at an audio store in cherry. I don't know if I can't buy these for $350 below retail. I may be through with patience :D

Those Focal's are nice, but I really want to stay within budget. I would rather be below budget than above. Thanks for the link!

We have a member here who owns a pair of the Boxers. Would have been nice if he would have chimed in. If you buy them let us know what you think.
 
I just bought them for $1200 shipped. I am happy to have saved $350 and still be $800 under budget. Now I need to find a nice pair of stands. I think the 28" stands that my Rega RS-1's are on will be too tall.

Now I just have to keep from second guessing myself. I had some really nice choices in my budget so I have to look at it like any choice was a good one.

I like the long spikes also. My listening room has thick padding and carpeting over hardwood.

Now I am looking at that Rega Brio-R again. I am also considering stepping up my DAC. Can't stop now, I'm on a roll!
