Best to compare apples to apples. These speakers are not of the same ilk. Not one being any better than the other just have different purposes and meant for different applications.

I'm going to take something back that I said earlier...I usually don't feel robbed listening to rock on my Harbeth's but I must confess that sometimes I long for a second set of speakers that would work in my larger living space so I could take my electronics out there and blow the carbon out a bit (couple months a year). I do miss having a larger space to listen in. That said I may have a troubled Grandchild (my wife's Granddaughter, actually) coming to live with us this summer and so I must content myself with this room. I will get a more full range speaker one day even if to just have a little noisy fun in the big(ger) room.
 
Art, your little room is really one of a kind. I do not see myself another pair of speaker and the new Raga amp just blend everything fantasticly. Every room has thier own sound signature and it might be a special experience listing music in this little room you got there.

That's kind of what I'm saying. Each room sounds different and there are speakers for every room and application. The OP's room is a "tweener" so to speak. If one doesn't requrie a lot of volume and scale I know many folks who are quite happy with a pair of LS3/5A's (of several types) in his size of room and just a bit bigger. However at his room size he probably won't be able to feel the bass from the P3ESR in the same way I do in my space. That will require a speaker with more low frequency prowess.

One thing that helps for me is that I never try to compare the size and scale of the sound I get from any stereo to a live event as that isn't nearly important for me to suspend disbelief as is accurate tone and how each instrument sounds and times in relation to each other. Those are the most important foundations to good sound for me. To get it all costs more than I can afford...but I would if I could...:yes:
 
I've been on the WWW all evening scoping speakers, reviews, etc. and listening to Art Pepper on my Rega RS-1's. I still like them alot. I agree with Art that my listening room is a tweener and that makes it tough to pick a speaker that fits just right. If I spend 2k on speakers they have to be flexible. I need them to be good in any room I put them in or when used with less powered gear. I am not real worried about feeling bass, but I do want a full bodied sound. I have been listening to my Rega's with and without the small sealed sub that I have and they hold their own without it. I will also add that I have it so well integrated and streamlined into my system that you would be very hard pressed to guess that I was using a sub if you didn't see it. I keep the volume down on it; my bass is not overbearing. I just switched to rock from jazz, AC/DC High Voltage (Australian version), sub on, sub off. It sounds good both ways, but I prefer it with the sub.

Maybe the GF RBS-1 or GF MBS-1 would actually work best for me in my situation. At least they give a 30 day trial.
 
Patience and judicious shopping will score your speakers. My LSA Statements were 1200 shipped from the original owner.
Alas, I'm on a jobsite and can't get home to enjoy them.:tears:

Now that is a good deal. I was just looking at those and can get them new for just under 2k or a demo set for $1600.
 
Has anyone heard the Nola Boxer's? They have a nice reputation, look good, and are well within budget.

I heard them a while back. Wasn't listening critically. When I pick the Apollo-R I will be in the store that carries Nola (and ProAc, Spendor, Harbeth, PSB, PMC and more...!!!). Perhaps I'll give them a good workout.

A little late to the party, but lots of good suggestions already. I'll offer another pair to consider - Gallo Acoustics Reference Stradas. I have them in a small room in my house, and I'm really impressed by them. They're quite the departure from your normal speaker, almost to the point where I was ready to write them off, but after listening to a pair of the Gallo Reference 3.5s, I became enamored with their sound. Since the Stradas are essentially the top half of the 3.5s, I decided to give them a try. I've been very happy with them so far.

If there's a dealer semi-near you, you may want to give them a listen.

Please check them out for me. I think they sound promising. Nola makes some very high end gear. I remember hearing some of their floorstanders in CA a few years ago and they were breathtaking they sounded so good. I read some reviews and what I like about them is that they are sensitive (90db), have high quality crossover components, bass down to 44 hz flat, and I like the looks of them.
 
I just spent time with a pair of Paradigm Titan v6 speakers at the local Hi Fi shop...um, I kinda brought them home and stuff ;-). (sigh) Impressive (7.5" main drivers) largish monitors. The list of capable monitors is infinite it seems. This a good problem to have...

My wife and I are rolling down to Pittsburgh tomorrow. I plan to spend a couple of hours at Jerry's records (huge supply of nice used vinyl at GREAT prices) and pick up some more Jazz and 80's alternative. Then I am going to hit a high end audio store while she shops and then take her out for a nice dinner. I just love it when the grandparents take the baby for the day!



I have to be patient and wait for Art's impression of the Nola Boxers. I am so close to pulling the trigger.

I.......must.......be.......patient........ :sigh:
