Hi Guys

I am getting Monitor Audio Silver 300 for at 25% discount with warranty. Typically in Canada it is around $2700.
What do you think about the deal ?

Just wondering if there can be a little more margin of discount if I browse around. I was initially all hands down for Bronze 5 or 6. But then I auditioned Bronze 300 today, and they are much better- both in terms of sweetness, bass and soundstage.
I know, theres no end to the greed.. :)

Well it sounds like your still kinda undecided, don't have a sales man push you a direction you may regret with a little discount. Take your time and think about it, with Urgent in your title your acting a little irrational maybe? That's never a good time to open your wallet.

I heard the Silver 300's at RMAF a few weeks ago, and I agree ... very very very good sounding speaker - and its in a decent price range. As for discounts I don't know what is available out there. 25% off sounds pretty good if they are the current model (I think they are?). Maybe someone with MA Dealer connections can chime in with additional information on that front.

i compared them with bronze 6 and the sound is noticeably lighter, clear with greater sound stage for Silver 300.
I thought so too. 25% seems a good deal but the prices Canada seems awfully higher than US. i am gonna browse around a bit today to see what other dealers can offer.
they are supposed to be new line. I guess just launched in 2017 or late 2016 may be...

Yeah that's what I was thinking last night on the currency rate exchange and asking if it was a good deal. A lot of us might be responding from the US, and even here with have different state taxes, some have non some have up to 10%.

Check out Parts Connexion's website. They are currently clearing out the remaining Canadian inventory of the previous Silver series, including the Silver 8, which is most comparable to the new Silver 300. I picked up a set of the Silver 6 from them, and absolutely love them.

Shipped to your door, the cost will likely be more like 40% off. When I priced out US dealer prices, they couldn't touch these.

I actually prefer the look of the last Silver series. The new series has too much going on with the bezel between the tweeter and mid, and the weird tweeter cover.

25% off is a pretty good deal for a current model. If you like them and you like that dealer, go ahead and get them.

yes... thats what am thinking. I saw older model Silver 8 is going for 30% off on partsconnexion. Keeping that in mind, seems like a good deal

Out of curiosity I checked, not that I am familiar with this brand. After all this was an 'Urgent' request. :)
These seem to sell for 1,250 pounds in the UK (country of origin) which works out to 2,100 CAD. So if that's close to your deal, why not go for it if it's something you really like. But then you have VAT and provincial taxes on top of that?

i also checked last night UK prices. I was surprised with lower price in UK. After discount its coming upto pretty same price that of UK. But not even close to price in US. Donno why US is so low in price...

I think you did well. I was listening to my M/A GR20's this morning that are in one of my systems.
I forgot just how good they sound. Don't forget they might need some break in time.

Best-

yes I came to know about the break in time from a dealer.
Apparently Monitor Audio sales a CD which is for break in purpose only for its speakers. dont know thought how much it costs. That CD does the job within 45 min to an hour which otherwise will take 100 or so hours

just to update, I am really liking the speakers. Took a while for them to open with the lower frequencies. Initially, the bass was bit dull with prominent mids and highs. A lot also had to do with silver coated Van Den Hul Clearwater speaker cables that I was using. I switched the cables to my previous cheaper 16G Rocketfish hi performance cable, and got little warmer sound with rather balanced highs and mids (probably not the best cable for the best of the sound but works for me so far). After almost a month of playing, I can get effortless bass and prominent lows in the speaker but still very controlled bass. The highs and mids are still smooth.
Overall, I am loving the speakers. So much clear and sweet in sound. Next upgrade I am planning to get Yamaha aventage (140 or 150W) and svs sub (sb2000 most likely).
I am debating internally though between getting a rx v model with pre-outs and get external amp to drive front channels. Its unlikely I will be using rear channels soon, as I will be moving in an apartment.

Does aventage really has a better sound over similar specs Rx v series? Probably not a good place to ask. :s

Hello,

I bought my Monitor Audio Silver 300 at a discounted price this Black Friday.
I use as a source a Mac Mini with Audirvana and Tidal to play SACD, FLAC and MQA, and a Pioneer BDP-450 for SACD and CDs. The main amp is a Onkyo A-9010, the second is a Yamaha Avantage RX-A1030. The difference in sound between the amps is quite big, you cannot replace the sound of a dedicated stereo amp with the sound of a avr receiver. The stereo amp is more dynamic, detailed and present. Maybe the avr could sound better with tweeks of the settings, but I'm a purist and leave the direct sound on...if it sounds good then the matching between components is right.

The speakers are sounding harsh even after almost 100h of usage in my system, although the sound seemed to sweeten a bit, or my ears are getting used. :-)
The guy from the store tell me that the amp is not suitable with this speakers and the break-in is not enough, and the Monitor Audio speakers need a longer time of usage.
The Onkyo amp is sounding very good on a Magnat Quantum 705, a Klipsch R-26F and Monitor Audio Silver 8. The Silver 8 sound was the reason to buy the Silver 300, thinking that overall signature is maintened.

What I found not ok is that some voices are sounding harsh and annoying in the upper mids, like the artist is shouting and this make me lower the volume to stop the pain. The sounstage is a bit restrained, maybe because the sound is controlled too much.
The best thing is the bass which is very deep and round, much better then the bass of the speakers mentioned early.

MNSLD2, please tell us what setup do you use with the Silver 300?

Thank you.

The 6th generation MA Silvers are an awesome value and you got a fine deal on them. US retail price of Silver 300 is $2000 in all but the high gloss black. Not sure how that converts to CAD but I know the exchange rate is bad these days. Any 25% discount came from your dealer and that is quite generous.

Silver vs Bronze is much different. The Bronze use poly cone drivers and always seem a bit boomy to me for 2 ch, great for HT. The exception in the line is the 2 and the 5 which have a calmer bass response. Silver is a more universal speaker with it's C-CAM (ceramic coated aluminum magnesium) alloy cones. There is tech trickled down from the Platinum series in the new 6th gen Silver drivers. Compared to the 5th gen I feel the newer Silvers are more in control of their lower end which produces a sweeter mid range.

As far as amp, we use Rogue Audio, Luxman, Marantz, Rega, and Yamaha 2ch int amps which all sounds great on the Monitor Silver line. The Silvers are actually surprisingly efficient overall. One of my favorite combos is the Rogue Audio Sphinx into a set of Silver 300s.

Enjoy your new speakers!
