RIP Zilch!
I hope you're in JBL heaven now...

you will be missed...

Zilch is no doubt making sure all the JBL's in heaven are as good or better than new. All those fortunate enough to join him will be in for a treat indeed :music:

Very well said.

I had just recently seen the sad news of Zilch's passing. Witty, lighthearted, knowledgable, enthusiastic, Zilch had an infectious zeal for speaker design and the sharing of his broad knowledge.

I always enjoyed his views. He will be missed.

just found out about the sad news....

i don't know what to say....haven't felt this sad in a long time. he was a very friendly, helpful, and giving person without any attitude - exactly what this site is all about. i will truly miss his presence here in AK. RIP Zilch...and hope you're in good place.

RIP Zilch - You will be missed dearly. Your contributions will live forever and many will continue to learn from you as I have.

I've lurked over the years, but for some reason never found it necessary to join until now. I just wanted to pass on my condolences to the family and friends of Zilch.

Zilch
You are a good person who always have patience and compassion to reply to my dummass questions. Thanks! I feel like I lost a real good friend. I really hope this is a some kind of a joke. Take care!

Sad news, I didn't know Zilch, or interact w/ him, but I have read alot of his posts. Very skilled, knowlegable, and generous, the kind of soul that makes a site like this work, and fun to be a part of. My condolences to his Family and friends. He will be missed. RIP CC

With regret, I did a search, and found this thread, as I hadn't heard an update lately.

What's there to say?

He will be missed on this site.

R.I.P.

Just came across this thread. Sad to see of his passing. He was a great contributor to AK with his vast knowledge of audio. As many have said already he will be sadly missed.:tears:

I've already posted but just wanted to add that I ran across one of Zilch's posts yesterday and it struck me how much I miss his knowledge, humor and wit.

Sure hope this thread gets over 500 posts.

Since I got out of the "DIY" game for the past couple of years (got involved with a girlfriend and moved into an apartment), I kind of faded away from all the forums as well.

I just learned about Zilch's passing and am very sad. In fact, my mother just passed one month before Zilch in January, so this is a pretty rough time for me and I know what his loved ones are going through.

I met Zilch some years back on a couple of different forums, but mainly on the audioheritage.org forum geared towards Altec and JBL products. He was always full of useful knowledge and helped me out several times on small issues I was having at the time with my projects.

Zilch was greatly appreciated and loved and will be sorely missed. Rest in peace my friend.

I have been away dealing with my own health issues and just recently started reading online again - I was shocked, and so very sad to read of zilch/ Evans passing. My heart goes out to his friends and family through this so very difficult time. Allthough we never met, I was so impressed by how helpful and giving he was to anyone who was in need, putting others first, never seeming to dwell on his own struggles - so many not even aware of how sick he was. Such a great loss to so many that he helped along the way... and such a great example to us all - My prayers are with his friends and family, Rest In Peace, you will be very missed.

I just heard of Zilch's passing today, over at diyAudio; on my thread where he helped me mate some drivers to my "Captain Nemo" copper speakers for Burning Man. This saddened me a great deal.

In 2009, while discussing on how to mate a Beta 10CX with a decent HF driver, Zilch chimed in on my thread. He suggested that I come on over, bring one of the "Nemo" speakers and we'll do some testing/swapping.

We played with them for the afternoon; trying different HF drivers, looking at spectral maps and tweaking the Zilchlab x-overs I had bought. He posted the test results on my thread, if anyone wishes to see them.

This resulted in great sounding, robust "Nemo" speakers that have had to endure the heat of Black Rock Desert for 10 days, every year since. They will go again to Burning Man this year, for their 3rd trip, after being Zilched at Zilch labs. I would never had got them to sound so nice if it wasn't for his friendly help. His knowledge was invaluable...

In the following year, as a thank-you; I designed an "Econo-wave" logo for him. He liked it with a few revisions. I did them but I never heard back from him. I guess he was getting rather ill by then.

So, to the folks involved with Econowave, please PM me if you would like it.

Here's the page where Zilch first chimed in on my speakers-

I'll really miss him. But his knowledge lives on in the threads, us, and especially our speakers!

regards- Kent
