There are always some who disagree ... doesn't make them right.

And cool as it is (thanks!) that tractor w/3 musicians is a far cry from open pipe bikes in the neighborhoods - where this all started.

FWIW, I was service mgr of Rockville Kawasaki in the late 70s ...
I do know what loud is - and why headers and open pipes exist,
and what a drag racing kawa 1000 sounds like.
Perfect stuff for the track where it makes a difference in performance.
My brother's big block 64 Chevelle was also perfect for what it was -
a winning bracket racing car. Low 10s every time.

Ya wanna be loud, go racing where it belongs ... not on the neighborhood streets.

Anyone can put a pipe om a bike an make it loud... Art is when you are looking for a particular sound an hunt or the pipe that will do that.. as I got lucky and did.. .when I let off the throttle on my bike, it sounds like a nascar rumbling down... super deep and ultra throaty.... of course having a 3" pipe helps that.. .

I guess it's also why I like Art of Noise so much.. they have made what a lot of people would call noise into art..

Same as art.... Art to me doesn't have to be considered art to you, for it to be art.
 
Actually, when I hear a bike coming down the street I usually go to look... I might get to see a really cool looking bike.. or car for that matter... Some cool stuff in the neighborhood that's pretty loud every now and then.

It all boils down to the old saying that "if I have to explain it to you, you wouldn't get it". Some people understand, some don't and that's the beautiful variety of humanity.

The problems start when people who don't understand think that they have the right to impose their "understanding" , or lack thereof on others because they think they have the obligation to do so.

As long as they stay outta my life we can share this planet in peace.
 
Which makes me think of a few people I've seen around here on ATV's running down the street.. not stupidly, but still illegal and in a bedroom community. Some people get all hissy about it. I could care less.. well .would actually like to go ride one...

And then there was the guy riding the ice chest down the street.. not very fast, but plenty loud... Some weren't amused.. I was.. Live and let live. They were hurting no one and not being unsafe.

If someone were to come screaming down the street loud as hell, then yes, I will be pissed.. not at the noise, but the stupidity with all the kids around. I got into it with a drunk that took out a few poles and his car and was still trying to drive off. Fought the keys away from him, and kept him running in circles and piles on the ground till the cops got there...

You can be loud, but show smartness and safety considerations, and I'm good to go..

I got over the loud pipes at sixteen when I had my old man's '74 Sportster. Wonder I can still hear from those damn straight pipes.

Not true. As I said in my first post in this thread it is illegal in VA to modify an exhaust to be louder than stock. Period. Any vehicle in violation should not pass inspection and like any inspection violation can be considered in violation of the DMV code and subject to a ticket. They just choose not to enforce this law, especially if you're on a H-D, or the front plate law if you have a Corvette.

There's a pattern here but I won't go political.

I just saw that BMW.. But I've never been bothered about it once, and ridden around a lot of cops...

I could have sworn when I moved here I looked and there was no law... Maybe I was thinking Maryland has none..
