MuchoReverbo's Modern Surf/Spy/Instro-Mental Thread

The Hawaiian Astro Boys were an instrumental surf rock band formed in January 2000 in the Ghent and Eeklo area of Belgium. Active through the 2000s, they became a notable name in the European underground instrumental scene. While starting with classic instrumental surf covers (The Ventures, Dick Dale, The Shadows) and spy/soundtrack themes (Hawaii Five-O, James Bond), they evolved to write their own original material. Their distinct style was often dubbed "Sci-fi-Neo-Power-Surf."

The Young Barons are an energetic Californian instrumental surf-rock trio originally from Rockaway Beach in Pacifica, California. Known for their youth, high-energy performances, and irreverent style, the band keeps the classic reverb-drenched guitar sound alive while adding a fresh, modern punch. The members started playing while still in their teens, previously performing in a rock combo called The Lucky Boys before pivoting fully to instrumental surf music.

They dropped their debut LP, Bitchin', in 2017, followed by the all-instrumental album Hella California and live records like Live A.F. They are signed to the Coventry, UK-based independent label Sharawaji Records. They are active live performers along the California coast, including notable appearances at the Huntington Beach Pier for Surfin' Sundays and local venues like Winters Tavern.

"Actual teenagers dedicated to preserving the California surf & drag tradition. Delivering boss sounds way beyond their years!"

C & C Surf Factory is a Toronto-based instrumental surf rock band formed in 2012 by guitarists Colin Cripps and "Champagne" James Robertson. The group delivers an edgy, reverb-soaked take on 1960s surf rock, contrasting sharply with the roots and country styles of their primary musical projects. C & C Surf Factory filters the best of 60s surf style – think wet reverb, Fender amps and a stable of electric guitars – through the modern-day guitar wizardry and unimpeachable cool.

Boris Bond follows the call of the West Balkan mountains and the waves of Southern California. While they celebrate and love the classic surf sound and instrumental surf music is one of their biggest influences, the music of Bosnia—where one of their guitarists was born and raised—and punk (all members previously played in punk bands) are also essential parts of their musical identity.

Their mission is to capture moods, play with them, and bring them to life in the mental cinema. That’s why their debut album is called Sounds of Movies Never Made (released by Surf Cookie Records, Greece). Someone once commented on their demo video: "This is the perfect music for world peace... Eastern scales and American instruments, peacefully and harmoniously in love!"

Since its eponymous debut in 2018, Humanga Danga has been looking back at 60’s Californian surf music to carve out its own identity. Not fixated purely on the classic West Coast sound, but equally embracing influences from early European instrumental rock ‘n roll, film scores, western, chicha and ethnic folktunes, the Belgian band developed a recognisable and unique presence in the global modern surf music scene.

The Fabulous Stingrays is precisely that—a completely anonymous, instrumental surf rock studio project. Because it was designed strictly as a studio entity rather than a touring band, there is virtually no public history, member roster, or biographical information available about the musicians behind it. They let the music speak for itself.

The project serves purely as a modern tribute to the traditional, reverb-drenched "golden era" surf styles of the early 1960s.
