Chaos And Creation At Abbey Road
(Goldrich, 2005)

* Paul McCartney's 28 July 2005 live performance at Abbey Road 2 studio, mainly of material from his album of the same year Chaos And Creation In The Backyard, but a few Beatles' nuggets, a WIngs number, and "Heartbreak Hotel". Along the way he tells stories of the old and very old days and explains how the band used the mellotron in the making of the number "Strawberry Fields".
 
808 (1985) - A history of and impact of the 808 drum machine on pop and hip-hop music. Incredible beats and interviews through out. What a machine.

Ain't It Dead Yet (1987) - A concert film of Skinny Puppy on the tour where I completely fell in love with them. Unforgettable and completely transformative show.

The T. A. M. I. Show (1964) - A concert film of some of the biggest names in rock/pop music in the early 60s. James Brown's 18 minute performance here is simply one of the greatest in the history of rock. It is unmatched in the last 60 years. The then young Rolling Stones take the stage immediately after. You can see in their faces that they know James should have closed the show.

There are a lot of stories about this. Both the Stones and James Brown wanted to close the show and, for whatever reason, the Stones won out. Then James Brown said "Just you wait" and gave the resulting performance that worked the crowd into an incredible frenzy. Supposedly it took an hour to quiet the crowd down enough to let the Stones go on.
 
Interesting tale about James and The Stones. I love The Stones and I had not heard it before. Great stuff. I think the take away for The Stones was we are not quite there yet. A good lesson for a young band. I'm not a huge JB fan by any stretch but I stand by that performance as being one of the greatest by a performer at the top of his game. I would probably put the Freddie Mercury/Queen Live Aid (1985) performance (also on YouTube) at number 2.

Off topic: Nederland - the erstwhile location of the studio - was up until recently the home of The Frozen Dead Guy Festival. Just one of the reasons I love my adopted state.
