My first reciever!

Just acquired my first amp/tuner combo. Marantz 2238b in excellent condition, took some serious cleaning to get the smoke and dust out of her, but everything shines now inside and out and works great!

Sweet one! I always will have a soft spot for Marantz's, as a 2245 was my first receiver. Don't own one at the moment, maybe again down the road.

Nice 2238B. I got mine about 3 months ago and just got some B&Ws for it. Nothing like the vintage sound of Marantz. Where did you find it and how bad was it when you got it? It looks brand new from the picture.

Thanks for all the kind words, this is now anchoring my newly established basement system....well, it IS my basement system! Along with my newly recapped Altec Coronas. I love the look of her in the dim lighting. This was also the first piece of gear I checked DC offset on, according to the how-to threads here. To my amazement it is at 7.2 my left channel and 3 .2mv on the right! Makes me wonder if it was gone thru at some point and calibrated. I got her for $75 ....money well spent after hearing this thing, way underrated on power I believe. I gotta ask, will I ever quit hunting the Craigslist ads and thrift stores?....I mean, is there a point where we say enough is enough? Lol

I got it in Pittsburgh Pa, about an hour away. Everything worked, lights, functions and all, but it was filthy. It started off yesterday as a "yellow faced" receiver! Lot of smoke residue. I was surprised how easy it cleaned off tho....controls were somewhat dirty, I pulled the covers and gave it a good De-Oxit bath...fixed her right up. While opened up, I gently cleaned the circuits and sinks etc.....inside was mostly light dust. Now she smells nice and looks damn near mint!

Now go find yourself another one. It's always good to have a spare vintage unit in working order.

Thanks Dave, I love the blue lights, think I am going to run my old Dual TT with it. it is currently occupying a closet shelf. It came with a Shure v15 type III, and I want to hear the phono section of this reciever. Here is another pic.
