My minimalist system. Show me yours.

My office system, not really a system and not really a hi-fi, but...

I posted this in another post but it fits here too. It could be called minimalist and I guess it could be called a system. It could also be called pathetic.

It's in the bedroom that I keep private for when I want to be alone when people are nagging me, kind of like how most use their garage or workshop except I don't have a garage or workshop. It is pretty much the ultimate in non-fidelity with sound just a barely noticable step above the $10.00 Sony clock radio on the other side of the bed.

1) Ipod.

2) Zenith 8-track (works perfect!) all-in-one system, unfortunately the only 8-track cartridges that I have are the first few Ramones albums and AC/DC Back in Black that I bought back when kids still had 8-track players. Found in a dumpster.

3) A single monophonic RCA Victor speaker that contains a bizarre array of small drivers inside of it and that goes nuts when my cellphone rings (?), emitting all manner of strange electric noises. Not only is it not electrically shielded, it seems to be electrically RECEPTIVE! If the cable from the Ipod gets too close it explodes in noises that are hilariously annoying. At volumes above conversation-level it starts to sound like an outboard motor or mis-tuned AM station, but it looks kind of neat. Found in a dumpster.

If anybody has anything that can beat this in stupidity it would have to be on the level of a clock radio wired through a guitar amp or something, and it would be hilarious to see it, and if anybody can even ballpark a guess on when the RCA Victor speaker was made and what it was made for, that would be funny to know.

Oh, I will trade this for either a set of Magneplanars or comparable speakers. I'll even ship this whole system to you for free. Heck, I'd probably drive it right to your doorstep if we can make a good enough deal!

My current system isn't considered a minimalist setup anymore (amp, pre, 3 sources, loudspeakers and dual subs). But several years back (due to financial reasons), I had an extremely minimalist system that sounded damn good...consisted of a classic McIntosh MC250 power amp connected to an AMC CD8b disc player, driving a pair of Klipsch Cornwalls...that was it! No preamp; just used the amp's gain controls for volume and balance.:thmbsp:

I'm glad someone bumped this thread up. That little integrated amp I showed the pictures of has been down at EchoWars' place since September, and I'm going down there to pick it up in a couple of weeks, I can't wait to here what it sounds like!
Oh, I also bought the matching reverb amp to go along with the integrated amp and the tuner!
I'll take some pictures once I have them all stacked together.

hey jim, what's that li' lamp you got between those components? pretty sweet.

Nice!

I had to think about this for a few, and decided if this accounted for a minimalist system or not.

I decided since it is the only thing for listening in the room, and since it is has the amp and the radio combined (abeit, not working at the moment, but will be singing soon) and since it is by far the most minimalistic thing I own..

I say it counts.. besides.. I had to show it off some more :D .. I call it a minimalist system.. although all back "in the day" it was the big thing...

That's a beauty!

Mitsubishi DA-A10DC Amp
Mitsubishi DA-P10 Preamp
Mitsubishi DA-F10 Tuner
A/D/S L300 Speakers
Apple 4th gen. 40gig iPod

I really like the looks of your Mitsubishi equipment. Very nice!! :thmbsp:

Here's my kitchen stereo. Pretty basic; a pioneer sx9000 and rg1 driving a pair of boston acoustic hd7's. Sounds plenty good enough to do the dishes by.

Here is my the system in my bedroom which consists of a Tube Audio Design 60 amp, Denon DCD 1650AR cdp and a pair of B&W DM601's. I use the variable output on the Denon to control the volume. :music:

My pride and joy...

A cool Sansui AU-9500 and a surprisingly good POS DVD player, hooked to small JBL's. My system at the office - WOW what a sound.
