My minimalist system. Show me yours.

World's Greatest Clock Radio

This is as minimalist as it gets for me right now: the bedroom system.
Technics SA-5270 Receiver
Sony DVP-S560D CD
Sansui Timer

If I leave it on all night, I wake up with sunburn from the receiver's backlighting. It makes pretty good mood lighting, though...

Don't have a picture because it's taken down right now, but sometimes in my bedroom I use only the following:

Denon DCD-1560 cd player (w/variable output)> Levinson No. 23 power amp> pair of speakers (various brands and styles depending...).

Here's a system I threw together just for giggles...and it sounds DAMN good!!

Even though the cd player has output control it still might not be enough. Now to look into a passive pre :D.

I had to think about this for a few, and decided if this accounted for a minimalist system or not.

I decided since it is the only thing for listening in the room, and since it is has the amp and the radio combined (abeit, not working at the moment, but will be singing soon) and since it is by far the most minimalistic thing I own..

I say it counts.. besides.. I had to show it off some more :D .. I call it a minimalist system.. although all back "in the day" it was the big thing...

Console amp? What kind, and what did you paint it with? You might consider plunkin' a simple stereo volume pot into it as an alternative to the passive pre.

I like the looks of those speakers, too. What are we looking at?

Not sure what brand of console it came from. Maybe I could post a pic of the innards and some of the experts here could tell the brand from it. All I know is the thing works great and sounds awesome. The gold paint looks like a hammertone finish. I am planning on giving it a new paint job though. Funny you mention the volume pot as I was talking to fellow AK'er intotubes and he suggested the same thing :thmbsp:.

The speakers are a TQWP with Radio Shack 1354 drivers. The bottom end is very surprising and they image like no other.

I used a Radio Shack 100K stereo volume pot (around $4) inline between the input jacks and the input tube in my Olson amp. I had no idea what I was doing, but it worked like a charm! I couldn't begin to tell you whether it would work with your amp, though. That would be a question for the learned ones around here.
 
Congrats! I've never seen another TX-700 other than mine...and yours looks in even better shape than mine! :thmbsp: Whatever happened to presets as the 70s wore on? :scratch2:

Those are an ultra-rare pair of the SA-700 Integrated Amp and TX-700 Tuner. They were made from 1970 to 1972 and sold for $200 each. I've seen them show up individually periodically on eBay, but usually never as a matched pair, and certainly not in this condition. He has excellent feedback, and it looks like he certainly knows what he's doing.

Wow, beautiful... I guess it is minimalist in the sense of being one piece of gear. But the cabinet design is not minimalist at all! I wonder if the internal componentry is minimalist. Is it AM only or do you have a band of shortwave? Can't quite tell.
 
Real Mini(malist)

I had a project to make a small system to hook my XM radio pod to when I went to the weekend place or the beach condo.

First I started with a small Jolida 1301 hybrid integrated amp with a creek headphone amp then I went to a Sonic Impact with Super Mini headphone amp. Both sytems used with a pair very nice old Pinnacle PN-5+ speakers.

(Shown here in the Atlanta weekend place)...

I came so close to picking one of these up in Iowa that used to be in a masonic lodge if I remember correctly. Now after seeing yours, I wish I would have.

I just love beautiful wood veneer on this Zenith!:thmbsp:

By the way, this has got to be one of my favorite threads. It's fun seeing everyone's basic systems.

Thanks! Yeah this habit has me bringing all kinds of stuff home. I have drastically cut back though. After almost a year into this hobby, I am finally staying home a lot more and listening to music. Only hit the thrifts every once in a blue moon and the flea markets on the weekends now. Cutting back on treasure hunting has also allowed me to rediscover what I love doing most and that is the outdoors. Lots of hiking.
