My new car...

Well, I got a "new" car. It's a '91 MR2. Neat little car! I love it!

Heck, my wife even loves it. The kids love it. I guess we're keeping it! I spent a couple of hours today buffing out the red paint. Well, at least half of it...

What Bolly said...a friend used to have one and competed in rallies with it--a zippy car. I also like the current body style...

I remember those well - I *almost* bought a 90 new but the turbo celica hooked me instead.

have lots of fun but be careful on snow/ice/wet pavement. IIRC it has about a 60/40 weight distribution.

Yeah, they say they can be a handfull in the bad weather. I take it pretty easy. I've been driving my '72 Capri with winter tires. It should actually be better than that. Now that I'm old I don't get into much trouble.

Take care,

Ed

You must be a person of small stature. I tried to fold myself up & get into one of 'em, I did, but I liked to not have gotten out...

Friend of mine owned one for a while, she loved it. Speaking of which, just as a casual observation and NOT meant as derogatory in any way, I think 9 out 10 people I've ever seen driving one over the years were all women.

Yup--my rally driving friend noted above is a woman--who had one (now she has that sassy Infinity coupe rocket-ship...and rallies that). BTW, nice...it's Arrest-Me-Red :D

Those Mister 2's were pretty popular around here when they first came out. That red one looks nice!

How did you get it back Ed?

I abandoned the idea of buying a turbo from out of state. This is a non turbo from a nice guy in Lakewood. It's very nice, but needs a thing or two.

It is small. Im' 5' 11" 195 lbs (down from 212!) and it's plenty big for me. The guy who sold it to me was probably 6' 4" and could barely fit. The big issue is how low it is. I'll want to lose another 20 lbs to make it easier, but I can get in and out without looking too silly.

I'm sure it was popular with women. My wife absolutely LOVES it. Now 'days there are a lot of kids in their 20s buying them and, of course, putting "body kits" on them. They can get pretty ricey. But they're also very popular with the autocross guys. I'd like to try my hand at that and this sure is the car for it. You can feel the lower moment of inertia. Yeah, I looked that up on the internet. But you really can feel it. The thing does like .94 gs from the factory on all season tires. Man.

Take care,

Ed

For the record, since I bought it, I've only seen one other on the road. It was red like mine, but a turbo. Yup, it was driven by a woman. Pretty good looking woman at that! Too bad I didn't have one of these when I was single.

Take care,

Ed

Cool wheels. :thmbsp: When I first saw this I thought you got the one in NY but I see this was a local buy for you. Remember to fly low and avoid the radar. :D

I had an older one and it was quite comfortable, I'm 6', 210 lbs.

There are aftermarket rear pads for those, one guy ("Mr. 2") told me if you use them pay attention to your rear-view mirror!

Mine had a blown head gasket and bad clutch. Apart from that it... ran fine??

Have fun!

Pete

And here I thought I was going to see pictures of your freshly repainted Capri! :(

Still, looks like you've got the next best thing! :thmbsp:

I like the MR2's,don't know if I would fit into it or not,I'm 6'3",270lbs :scratch2:  ,I DO fit into the wife's 2001 Corvette ok,a little tight, but once I'm in...I'm IN!! I seen a whole "herd" of MR2's last summer come thru town, must of been a club or rally or something, counted about 20 cars...they sure looked cool all comin' down the road as a group!! Rob

The Capri paint project is a slow one. They're working on it here and there between jobs they're not losing money on. I did visit it a couple of weeks ago and it looked straight as could be to me. They weren't happy with it yet. The danged thing will be better than new when they're done, and I mean that quite literally. Amazing what they can do to that old sheat metal. If anyone in Denver needs any body work, please take it to AB&T. Great guys and they do great work.

Take care,

Ed
