Walrus ivory ....... really ? That sounds kind of cruel unless you can enlighten me.

I have a large collection of ivory legally acquired of course, and lots of small workable pieces to make into musical notes. I also have mastodon ivory but it is fossilized and very dark and would not stand out against black backgrounds. Perks of living in Alaska. I also noticed I have a larger piece that someone had soaked in coffee to imitate fossil ivory but was found to be non fossilized. That is the piece I will use as the stain is shallow. Native alaskans do still hunt and consume walrus, whale, seal and most other animals throughout Alaska and can legally sell the ivory, baleen, and other parts of certain animals as long as it has been turned to art.
The natives hunt with subsistence permits and utilize the meat and parts as part of their heritage. You can purchase ivory in almost every gift shop in various forms including whole tusks. It can also be found on beaches along the coasts of western Alaska.

[QUOTE I've never ever heard anything that's even close to the dynamics and soundstage of the 1.2s.

I purchased a pair of legacy focus speakers and sold them pretty quickly as there was no comparison in sound. You are right, they are hard to beat once properly modified and powered.

Thanks for the info . It is always good to learn something even at my advanced state of life . Being from Pa , I can certainly understand hunting as a way of life even though I no longer hunt myself .

:scratch2:The more I think about it, the more I think I'd like the musical notes airbrushed on the lacquer Sure would make it easier and I can surely find a pro to do it. White on black. Anyone? Bad idea? Like 4 straight lines across the front edge with notes staggered and like a few unobtrusive on sides..

That would certainly be different. You're talking about the wooden side panels?
I've been futzing with mine all day trying to squeeze all that I can out of them. Damn are they fussy on placement. Much more so than their smaller brothers. But once you get them right all other speakers seem pale in comparison.

My uncle has a pair of those he bought new, runs them with an Adcom amp he bought at the same time.

I've been hoping he would sell them to me for years.

Well after a small hiatus I have finally come back and got rid of the old stand my stuff was sitting on and picked up a VTI stand. Much better looking and everything fits. I still need to do some serious wire management and replace the tv with a bigger one this hitch home and run the wires in the wall. (Well I mean have the neighbor do it) He installs home theater stuff... I finally put up the sota turntable and will give it a whirl soon and get back to records like I am supposed to as an audiophile junkie after I order a new cartridge. The one on it supposedly has less than a hundred hours but I just want a new one and I need someone to come over and align it if I can find anyone to do it in the dallas area. Anyway here are the pics of the new stand and the layout. The sony headphones are for the father in law to hear the tv as he is hard of hearing. They wont be there long.

So here is 4 and a half hours of work sealing drivers and dynamat extreme all spokes on drivers to stop ringing and make things better. After all was said and done, I put in some rolling stones and the difference was incredible. The soundstage widened, was deeper by about 2 feet and and the lows and highs and mids woke up from their sleep. It was a 40 dollar upgrade that made a 2 :music:thousand dollar difference in sound. I used armaflex on drivers and x-over to seal them and used the dynamat extreme on tweets, and all drivers and on the back of the aluminum crossover cover. I highly recommend this to any speaker owner to do.

I dont know it all. but what do you mean by sealing the drivers?
I've always been curious about their sub bass output. Mean lookin speakers. It's been my PC wallpaper for a long time. thanks!

Just pull the drivers and reseal them with better gasket material. Older speakers can have failed gaskets due to age and you lose sound quality when that happens. Sub bass output goes to 10hz on polk srs 1.2TL. Anyone who has heard them is usually amazed at how hard they hit you in the chest. I cant even think of any brands of subwoofers that go that low.

Hmm lots of road flares and a brush torch, next time he'll take notice of the "conditions"

lol

I did that armaflex gasket upgrade to my 1.2tl's about a month ago. The passive push test is noticably slower and the bass is also a bit better I believe. If you haven't done it yet Larry's rings is also an excellent and affordable upgrade to those monsters. Luckily my drivers were already dynamatted by the po. I'm betting your fingers are still sore from doing all those drivers as I know mine were when I did my 2.3s.

-65 degrees with a 30mph breeze! Holy frostbitten brass monkeys! At least there shouldn't be any mosquitos to bother you in that weather.

Ive done the silk tweeter upgrade, dynamat, rings, new x-over boards and sonicap and mills, sealed all drivers and cabinet, and left the connectors alone as they are just a visual upgrade only. I also am going to take bottom and top caps off and sides and store them, and have new MDF caps and sides made and have them black lacquered at an automotive shop. I am also looking into having them quickly replaceable and have different colors made. I think that would be cool as all get out having a Ferrari red set one day and black the next. You get my meaning. Also I read about your McIntosh tuner you acquired and had to pick one up myself last night on the bay.. I read up on the sansui and heard it may be a bit dark sounding on highs so I left that one alone but it was a hard sell for me. I studied up hard and long for 3 hours and made a decision due to aesthetics and what I really listen to and decided I wanted a mint condition mr80 with digital readout. That's what I pushed buy it now on. It took a long time to decide between your model and mine but I finally found the minty unit I was looking for. Now I have to add on to the damn VTI stand to have it assume the position on top front. Arggg this hobby is brutal! :smoke:
