My try at a Really Nice Rebuild Marantz 2245 2270

What kind of WIMA's did you use on C408, 407, 410, 411 Pat? I think i used WIMA mks4 once in a pre-amp but i did not like the sound at all, they just sounded so harsh to me.

When you are recapping and also replacing films, you need to take a holistic approach to what you are choosing to go on each board. What I mean by that is this, if and I say if the Wima sound harsh, if they are put on the same board with a soft sounding film you may not hear this draw back. I will tell you this after having the "all was going well on my recap untill I did the pre Amp Board moment, that I removed basically every cap and replaced them with others, and a bunch of different combinations. In my opinion on this board in my 2245 the Wima's are not a problem in the locations they are being used in. The 2245 has that smooth seductive Marantz sound we all love. And to answer the question they are the MKS2, that many people use.

Thanks for your explanation :)

Bourns trimmers:

These are the ones that I am using, (there are a multitude of choices and styles) the SM is not clear it says 2.2K and 1K. The ones in my 2245 are both 2.2K CW. I am using single turn.

You will need 4 of these:

Why do you think you need them? Also you can not just put these in and fire it up? You will need to take the old ones out and take a measurement before you install them, use a dim bulb tester just in case.

Thanks for the response. was having some biasing issues then a channel kept cutting out. Found that a leg from one of the pots is pulling out and separating from the body. Thanks again great thread by the way bookmarking it now.

Amp Boards are being finalized, there will have to be a small tweek on the Pre Amp Board due to the detail resolving of the films on the Amp Boards.

Here are the Bourns trimmers and the Diff Pr's.

put one of those relays in my 2245 last spring. i thought i had done something wrong when i first powered it up because it was so quiet.

I must have overlooked this particular model of Bourns trimpot, even though I looked for and purchased a couple different pots that were the correct value, but just didnt look good! Bourns is an excellent quality part as well, at least in my experience.
Thanks for the model numbers...

Yes this new relay seems very precise, and upon power up it is much quieter then I am used to hearing.

I really like the new Bourns 4 turn, but they are a bit expensive for a set of 4.

The Pre Amp Board is the Brain Center of the 2245, so I am back to this board and shaking down these 3 versions and I will comment on each, and why? It will end up being either V2 or V3, leaning right now to V2 but want to put some time in here listening.

what locations are that ??

Shamelessly taking notes Pat, have 2 2245's in queue for January for full on rebuilds :)
Rethinking some of my usual cap replacements as your unit comes together.
Do like those Muse and Panasonic ecq's and THA series for main caps though.
