My tubes are bigger than yours

There is a pic that I've seen a BUNCH of times thru the years of a couple of VERY early CRTs-from C. 1937 being held up by a woman holding on to the bases of them. She is smiling, but to me, does NOT look happy, the 2 CRTs look as if they could crash into each other, & create a REAL Melluva Hess. They also DON'T look like CRTs we're used to, they look impossibly weak & fragile. Maybe that's why Miss Stock Photo Gal ain't too happy holding them up... figuring they might go "Ker-POP!" & she'd get cut to shreds..

RF, as you know PIO, is some fun stuff. Got my first CB at 8 y/o, first RF burn from a 100W linear at 10, general HAM license in '76 at 12.

Good times. I've been thinking lately I may want to venture back into it.

I almost built a phono preamp with the mind's. But after seeing grommets needed to be used on them due to being microphonic I decided against it.
Wouldn't take much to breadboard for a funzies trial, and make a fun thread.
4 of the smaller ones should run on a 1.5 Aalkaline cell and a couple or three 9 volt batteries in series.
Quite possibly, someone has done it.

They have. It used 4 tiny tubes.

An old high school friends father was retired from PG&E, a huge power company here in Cali. He had a nice out building where he restored really early TV's. I used to spend some time there watching and talking to him and watching some of his restored TV's. One of my favorite was an old table top Emerson. It has the clearest picture of my B&W TV I ever saw.

Wonder which Emerson that was.
GE originated the aluminized "Daylight" CRT with the 10FP4, I had a GE with one once, it became standard for all TV CRTs in a few years as clearly superior to those without, that lost more than 50% of the image brightness into the rear of the CRT. Relatively scarce 10FP4s are sought out as replacements for 10BP4 for their superior contrast and brightness, maybe the Emerson had one as a replacement?
Also had a 1939 RCA mirror set with a uselessly tired CRT that was otherwise neet, and a later Stewart Warner console mirror TV, another neet set that worked.
