My tubes are bigger than yours

"Effective"?
Wonder what that is true measured RMS?
Not sure, but I usually think of triode making about 15% of rated anode dissipation in class A1. That would only be about 45W for the 833A with convection cooling. Even at that power level, I think you would be hard pressed to find an OPT that could keep up at low frequencies. I suspect Wavac might have stretched the truth a little on this one.

Certainly, a decent OPT that operates at that voltage to suit the 833 would have to be custom order. A websearch seems to indicate these tubes are being presently produced(?).

Wonder which Emerson that was.
GE originated the aluminized "Daylight" CRT with the 10FP4, I had a GE with one once, it became standard for all TV CRTs in a few years as clearly superior to those without, that lost more than 50% of the image brightness into the rear of the CRT. Relatively scarce 10FP4s are sought out as replacements for 10BP4 for their superior contrast and brightness, maybe the Emerson had one as a replacement?
Also had a 1939 RCA mirror set with a uselessly tired CRT that was otherwise neet, and a later Stewart Warner console mirror TV, another neet set that worked.
Looked like this;

Maybe, he used what he could find. There wasn't any internet back then.
The Emerson had only two knobs. On-off/volume, and a tuning knob with a fine adjustment ring behind it. I don't remember where the speaker was, it wasn't on the front.

WAVAC 833, 350,000$ power amplifier Stereophile review was a total kluster.

WAVAC 833a amplifier review.

The amp kept breaking, Measurements were really bad. But the review was massively positive.

Which it would need to be for you to get a pair for free...

Ah yes journalistic integrity~!

As for 833's they do 1,500 watts audio for a pair in class "B".

Still have 6 or 7 of them around from repairing RF Induction furnaces.

Dud 833s can make a cool lamp base. An engineer buddy made one. Took the dud tube, submerged it in a bucket of water, then used diagonal cutters to snip off the "nipple". Water rushes in to replace the vacuum. Set the tube upright to let the water drain, then drill a hole in either the plate or grid cap to mount a socket. Thread zipcord through & out where the nipple used to be, fabricate a base, add shade, and, voila! Cool lamp.
