Mystery large 70s speakers

Any thoughts? May be a pointless question as they probably are unidentifiable, custom cabinets. The depth and size of them are promising I think.

Dunno, but, IMNSHO, the lack of any identification anywhere and the thin wires emanating from the back of them doesn't inspire confidence..

The cabinets (is that real wood or vinyl? Glossy? Maybe melamine?) and grilles suggest some late 1970s date of manufacture. Could be anything behind those grilles. The wires don't bother me because they are attached to simple screw terminals mounted on the back. See if you can get pics with the grills off.

Yeah pics I have are a litttle more detailed. I'd say real wood veneer. Good catch about the screw terminals, the guys selling them isnt the original owner he's prob just attached whatever thin speaker wire he had to test them

They are 2 way and half as the Kef Calinda . The tweeter is the same and the woofer seems to be a 4 inches .Is it possible to take a look to Xover??

Interesting. What is 2.5 way: the woofer running full range with a crossover between mid and tweeter? Nah I dont have them with me to pull out the xover

No. the woofer is passive .The Kef calls in this way its similar speakers.It is a normal two way speakers in addiction a passive woofer to reinforce the low frequencies.This one is not linked to the Xover .Take a look here . Looks like an incomplete Rogers Monitor, a DIY-design, a 4-way transmissionline, so the B139 oval woofer is active. It's missing the supertweeter (which should be in the square hole on top). Also the midrangedriver looks a bit tacky, in the original that was a different Kef driver. Problem is that there are a zillion variations made on the original design, including modified crossovers.

Also the midrangedriver looks a bit tacky, in the original that was a different Kef driver. Problem is that there are a zillion variations made on the original design, including modified crossovers.

Maybe . Seems strange a horn supertweeter in a low efficiency system . Probably it was a piezo tweeter .

Generally, the passive woofer has the fuction to tune of same frequencies of active woofer ( I mean with this the woofer linked with over) .If it is "active" and/or linked to the xover the port is too far from it , imho.
The rectangular shape of the port seems suitable for a piezo tweeter I do not see any holes for the screws and no trace of glue .perhaps was inserted interlocking

However I suggest you take a look at the Xover.I guess we know more so..
