This is way too cool. Advertisement said New Rek O Kut B12H . Yep, it is. Box has water damage and smells musty. This has been on a shelf for a long time. Now to start cleaning and oiling. Anyone know how to date code these?

What is holding down the idler? Is that how it comes packaged and there’s some threaded fasteners elsewhere to install? Or is that how the idler is supposed to be secured during operation?
Reminds me of paper brads where you fold over the ears after inserting through the holes.
Or am I missing something? Not an idler?

Yes that is correct. This is how it was shipped from the factory. I truly feel this has not been put together yet. Check this picture of the spindle tip. The cord is still wrapped and tagged.

It Lives! Oiled motor and cleaned the spindle. Then installed the idler. The off setting between 78 and 45 lets the platter free spin. Off between 45 and 33 has a resistance to the platter. Runs in all speeds. Yes the idler is aged but I have heard worse. Now to start looking for an arm.

That's a great Rek-O-Kut there. When made in USA really meant something. Every component you show including the box was made in the vacinity of NYC. Sadly, much of that industry is now gone. Much of the manufacturing in and around that area was for the aerospace and instrument industries, it's no wonder these turntables were built to such high standards.
I did my machinist apprenticeship in the greater NYC during late seventies. Industry was starting to leave by then.
I moved to the NW to make parts for Boeing. I'm still doing just that although the pie slices are getting pretty thin with all of the off-shoring.
It's a problem repeated all over the country. Any efforts to re shore manufacturing get my support.

Parts are starting to arrive for the build. Motor mounts and an arm. The arm is missing pieces but looks new. I need to find the mounting/pal nut, side bob weight and armrest. A head shell is on the way. An early stereo head shell I hope will fit the later production arm. Anyone who has parts please chime in.

Here are some pictures of the disassembly. Also a pic of the old mount that has cracks in the ferule. Second pic shows wiring. Thirds shows motor and plate. Fourth shows the parts to the spring attached to the plate.

I'm interested to see that two of the three grommets have washers above them. That may give more ability to adjust speed/position on the pulley than without them. I may try the arrangement with my belt drive ROKs, which have a pretty limited amount of adjustment possible.
