Nec 6500e or Dual 1226

I have a choice between a NEC 6500e or Dual 1226. Both are in excellent condition and have been serviced. Which one would you choose?

Thanks

I like Duals, but the NEC is a superb turntable. I'd get the NEC, simpler and less to have go wrong.

And the NEC "Authentic Series" was especially good stuff. NEC got in the game late and quickly shifted their efforts to things like computer monitors and drives but their stereo gear is really nice!

Both tables are good but I'd definitely take the NEC over the Dual.

Thanks for all the input guys! I went for the NEC. Can't seem to find any specs on it anywhere. Now what cart would be good for it? max $200.

Thanks

It has a Excel ES-70S. I looked into it and found out I could get a Shibata stylus for it but I was thinking something new like a Denon dl-110.

Both these cartridges get good reviews here and either would probably be a good match for the arm....... probably. This assumes that the EXcel is a good match to begin with. Without more info on that arm, though, I can't really make a firm recommendation.

It looks very similar to my Realistic Lab-400 I used to have. I looked up the pdf manual from vinylengine for the Lab and looks very close to the same. Lab was made by CEC and the NEC by Nippon. Overall length and effective length are the same. Here is a link to the manual. What do you think?

It's quite possible that Nippon Denki actually had the table made by C.E.C. or maybe just bought the arm from them. A lot of people used C.E.C. You might find the C.E.C. logo stenciled onto some internal parts or, say, cast into the underside of the platter but I've seen their OEM tables with and without any of their ID so absence of proof isn't proof of absence.

Anyway, the LAB 400 type arm should be fine for either cartridge. Getting the Excel Shibata from Merlin is the less expensive option and may in fact be the better one.

Thanks for the help John. I think I will get the Excel Shibata stylus and the Denon dl-110 cart then I will have a backup. I will let you know how they compare when I get them and have a good listen.

Thanks
Rick.

John,

How about the Accutex line - ACUTEX 410 E may be the correct compliance.:scratch2:

Could be. I know my earlier 210 II E would work and the compliance of the 410 E is somewhat lower. I think the 312 III STR (Shibata) would work too, an entire cartridge for about half the price of most Shibata styli and only a couple of Euro more than the 410 E.
