Adcom GFA 585 Repair
If you have not yet located a repair center, Google
ebc electronics. I sent two defective 585's to them , both with the infamous "leaky cap" problem.
Adcom had advised me that no parts were available and they were un-repairable - throw them away. A large Adcom authorized repair center here in Atlanta told me the same thing.
I took a chance and sent them to Paul at EBC and he repaired them and sent them back within a week - both working perfectly. Here is info from their site:
Adcom GFA-585 repair service
"The repair service covers any repair of the unit. Usually GFA-585's have bad quality electrolytic capacitors. They leak onto the input/driver board and the electrolyte damages/corrodes parts. First time you notice that the cold unit makes loud pops, noise, distortion which are gone after warming up the amp. In several weeks or months you'll get burned fuse, speaker or output transistors. The amp has to be repaired ASAP. We clean the board, completely overhaul it and replace all bad/corroded parts.
We fix 100% of GFA-585s. If your broken amp is still sitting on a shelf in a repair shop, ship it to us and you'll get it back in a week."
