Need Advice ASAP !

Just got back from an estate sale in my neighborhood and need to some quick advice asap before this gets sold.

Since I'm clueless with tube equipment - thought I'd throw this out for you tube guys.

The price as of NOW is $295 for all listed below - I didn't write down any model numbers and should have BUT here's what I noted.

Dyanco Tube Amp - tuner - preamp - this is all housed in a beautiful custom made cabinet - and I mean beautiful - probably walnut - it also houses a garrard turntable -- everything looks to be in true mint condition.

I really don't have $295 today - I can get it - BUT - if doesn't sale today - tomorrow it goes to 25% off - AND if it's still there Saturday - it's 50% off - OF COURSE IF it's still there Saturday - I'll jump for $150 in a heartbeat.

Any help and advice would be awesome !

I really want to get into tube stuff - but I'm a total noobie with tubes !

Thanks folks !

Thanks buddy -- wonder if I could sneak it in the house without the BOSS knowing I did - the cabinet probably weighs a ton - it's really nice wood and custom made - NOT CHEAPLY made -- the pieces themselves appear to be in near mint condition -- I might run back over there and write down the model numbers -- I also inquired about buying the Dynaco pieces without the cabinet - doubt they'll do it BUT they're gonna call and let me know !

I"m betting someone snags this stuff pretty quick - I guess worse case is if my wife got pissed - I could always sell it ?

Looking on e-bay - I'm pretty sure these are the pieces

Dynaco Dynakit PAS-2 Tube Preamplifier
Dynaco ST-70 Dynakit ST70 stereo
DYNA FM-1 DYNACO FM Tuner Tube Radio FM1

Never know.. I snagged a Barzilay console last weekend at an estate that had been sitting there for two full days before I looked in it and found a McIntosh Receiver and nice expensive EV drivers that anyone would have been stupid to pass up buying at the price they had.

You're right, so we'll see - $300 today would put a strain on my billfold -- $150 is manageable - and if they call and say they'll sell only the pieces without the cabinet - that'd be even better -the cabinet is beautiful, BUT I have no space for it and honestly, they seem to be way more proud of the cabinet than the contents - I'll keep my fingers crossed. Sure would be a cheap way to break into tubes ! I'll post back either way on the results !

Thanks for the advice !

Well, sometimes you go tipping your hand that the insides are really the desirable things and word gets out and then someone else is dragging it home or the negotiations become less flexible.

ho and hum over it... let them know how hard it is to find a home for a large console, and that's why people like small cheap plastic stuff any more.... that the tubes will have to go to a service tech to have caps replaced...

You just have to get creative in haggling... I had ho'd over the console I was looking at for a while before even asking what they wanted, so that once they did give me a price, it was a fantastic one because they knew they saw a sucker to take that big ass console outta their house... Yeah.. I'm a sucker for big consoles :D  (just the stuff in it)

I hear you and that's a good plan - the only thing is, these folks just think the darn cabinet is the cat's meow -- NOW if I could get them to keep the cabinet and just sell me the stuff inside - that would be great. The estate sales people are gonna call the owner ( at least they said they would ) - I'm betting if they do call the owner - he'll not waiver on the price, but who knows. I'll know soon enough one way or the other !

If it's solid Walnut, the wood alone can easily be worth the asking price pulled apart and re-purposed.. If it's veneer, then it's only worth to you what you want the cabinet for.

Oh, there's no doubt the wood is REAL - not sure if it is walnut, but it's better than pine - could be oak, but stained. The cabinet really is super nice - I just have no use for it. I'll post back one way or the other - hopefully with some good news !

I would have snagged it right then, just the amp alone is worth more than the price they are asking. When you go back tommorow and its gone, you will be sorry. But I hope its still there for your sake.

The boss ( my wife ) just now told me to go for it - SO if it's still there at 7:00 am - it's coming home with me !

If its meant to be, it will be there.

Thanks Ken - you're exactly right - I for sure believe in Karma --so if it's there and it comes home with me - then it's supposed to come home with me. No doubt if it does, I'll be driving everyone insane with questions !

I hope you get it, I know you will have a hard time sleeping tonight :D cheers to the wife for giving it the :thmbsp:

Will be watching for the exciting conclusion :lurk:

If you are in S. Idaho, that's junk and WAY too much to pay...

If you are anywhere else its a ripping bargain!

(A pal / biz acquaintance called me yesterday about a Dynaco ST-70 and other stuff he saw in the paper and I am trying to talk him into it. So good karma either way. )

Good luck!
