I just got a great deal on a Pioneer PL-41 turntable and I could use some help setting it up.

Does anyone have a manual for it?

Pioneer PL-41 Manual

I guess I should have mentioned that I don't care about getting an original manual. Scans would be great!

If anyone has any advice on how to get it to stop skipping the first couple of grooves on about half of the records I play, I would appreciate the help.

While not the same exact model, the PL-A35 appears to be in the same series as the PL-41, (same tonearm, base, design, etc.) except for being fully auto. The owners manual for that is at vinylengine.com. It may be of help.

hi, i have had the same problem with mine too
since this table has no antiskating it must be level on the nose
just make sure the table is level both ways side to side and front to back, use a level tool for this,
you can use very small pieces of thin cardboard and put under the feet
it took care of the problem with mine
also make sure you have the right tracking force and VTA to the specs of your cartridge
if you don't know the tracking force (1.5 to 2.0 )
just increase the force little by little until it does not skip anymore

I've been winging things with my PL-41 without a manual, so sorry there.
I have found that tracking at the high side of the stated range for my cartridge alleviated the same problem(noted when I first owned it). For instance, my Grado states a range of 1-2g, with optimum 1.5g. I found that
the PL-41 seems to like 1.75g for tracking purposes. As stated, any turntable should be levelled(not just PL-41 or others without antiskate). Good luck!

I have scanned a complete PL-41 manual, but for some reason it's not letting me upload it, even though it's below the max file size.

Shoot me your email addys and I'll send it to you. If you're on dialup it's around 600k.

Jeeves, to adjust the VTA loosen the two little screws at the base of the tone arm, in the metal collar. After doing so the tone arm should slide up and down freely allowing you to adjust the VTA.

Glad AK is back up and running!

Thanks!

I'll give it a try when I get a chance.
