All they reported on was the C1000. Old news. I guess McIntosh showed up with nothing new?

"McIntosh demonstrated a vacuum-tube version of its C1000 preamplifier in its two-channel audio room at the Alexis Villas. Retailing for $9000 and weighing in at 54 lbs, the C-1000T has fully balanced, dual-mono, MC and MM phono stages, balanced and single-ended inputs and outputs, and a front-panel window to show off four of the eight 12AX7 tubes. Mirrors create a barbershop effect of endless reflections, suggesting the presence of many more tubes than are actually there. Even so, I found the effect pleasing.
The remote has enough controls to allow the C1000T's owner to "become a total couch potato," said McIntosh's Ron Cornelius. Cartridge loading impedance and capacitance can be set on the fly."
 
CES update

Have no Fear, Mac is there. My friend/dealer is there & reporting in daily. I have heard that the VP1000 is one slick toy, so I had my dealer place an order for me. This is the first half of the MX135 replacement. The other half, audio only will be due out shortly. This is confidential stuff. :boink:

What about the new MA6300 integrated amp? Figures it's the one thing they didn't cover as it's the one thing I'm interested in. :sigh:
 
Okay, still not a peep from McIntosh but I am hearing the MA6300 will be available in May with an expected price of $3000. That's a shame as it is too high for the "entry-level" it is being marketed towards and far too close to the price of the MA6500.

On the subject of CES there were some nice non-McIntosh tuners with HD Radio support. The one from Day-Sequerra looks very nice. I would like to see McIntosh get going on an MR-85 replacement featuring HD Radio support and balanced outputs. Wouldn't we all?

Working on this assumption, one could expect an MA6900 successor costing about $5500. That would give McIntosh three solid-state integrated amplifiers in widely spaced price slots.

Good point. I hadn't considered a price increase on the 6500. Still too much for the 6300 through. Now what is up with McIntosh? I think they are the only company at CES to not have issued a press release.

Kinda tough to issue a press release when all the new gear wasn't quite into full production. Probably not Mc's fault, since it's usually suppliers failing that causes the delays, but it makes the publicity real hard to manage.
 
We did give out lots of press kits to the press. Until the MA6300, XRT16, and VP1000 are on the price sheet we will not have pricing.
The XRT16 was given very positive feedback from all of those who listened to it. It will be priced between the XLS360 and XRT28.
I was stuck in the big room playing DJ for the whole show. We had the big 2K system plus the MS300, MCD201, MVP861 and a KAB 1200 Technics running a Denon 301II MC cartridge. The table and server were my units so I had a lot of music along with 20 some albums and a few more I bought downstairs. The server had about 250 CDs on it and I ripped about ten more at the show from show goer's own disks.
The 861 and MS300 ran through the MDA1000 and solid state section of the C1000. The MCD201 was analog out to the tube C1000 section along with the Technics table. MCD201 owners will be very happy with the sound of their CDs. We shipped a lot of 201s in December and more are coming off the line this month. We have not filled all back orders though so be patient with your dealer.
Spinning records was a lot of fun and shocked many who have given up on the 'black 12" hard disk'. Music without holes has a certain satisfaction, warts and all.
I also got to meet four AKers! Cool.

Sorry for the previous wrong guess. With so little publicity and incomplete links to the MCD-201 page on the Mc website, and because my little tiny dealer had nothing on the 201, I assumed your production was held up.

When will the 201 be readily available to those not in the back-order line?
 
A dealer must order the MCD201 first then we will assign one of the ones we build to him. We do not carry much stock of any item in finished goods as we build to need every month.

Yeah, I'd like to see a new McIntosh tuner that would compete against the Day-Sequerra unit. The base model would feature a high quality AM/FM tuner and would accept at least two additional modules (HD radio, XM, Sirius, etc). A balanced analog output and a digital output for the digital-based broadcasts would be nice.

Of course, judging from what Ron has been saying, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for McIntosh to release a tuner that can receive satellite radio. Apparently, Ron and the folks at McIntosh think that satellite radio sounds like crap. They're probably right, but I have no doubt that McIntosh could made a satellite radio tuner that sounds better than the mass market brands. And anyone who heard the Day-Sequerra demo knows that HD radio has the potential to sound amazing, although I suspect that broadcasters would rather multicast than use the full data stream to product true hi-def audio.
 
I don't believe I used the work crap though. I recently listened to the Polk XM unit running through the MDA700 DAC and it sounded very good on a number of XM 'stations'. It would be nice if the two systems were unified which is supposed to happen some day.
HD is another matter that has issues and the potential to damage the reception of older tuners. Anyone could take a local FM transmitter and a high quality source and do a demo that would sound the same. You do not need HD to do this and it was done all the time in the 70s at shows.
Any and all of these formats are fair game as long as we can make a tuner that sounds good.

If they can include AM they can include Satellite. Satellite won't make it into a McIntosh but not because of sound quality issues. I think they will include HD Radio compatability in the next version however. They'd be foolish not to.

Ron, any specs on the MA6300 to share or maybe just a picture?

Are you referring to XM and Sirius? I wouldn't hold my breath. Now that Sirius has spent big $$$ on Howard Stern and seen a significant increase in its subscriber base, I think we're all going to have to accept the fact that there will be at least two major satellite radio networks for years to come. If we can't have a single, unified satellite network, then the next best thing would be a tuner that can receive both Sirius and XM.
