Doing an open ended two channel demo is way less stressful than a timed HT demo. Even though I was caffeined up I look relaxed, ha! The showgoeres got a chance to relax with the music too, which is nice.
Meeting the Akers was an added treat though.
As I understand the new fiber optic lighting system on all new McIntosh equipment uses LEDs as the light source which is distributed to the front panel threw fiber optics. So no the new MA6300 does not use different lighting than the other new products with fiber optic lighting.
The MA6300 uses direct LED lighting using white LEDs at low voltage. This is new and not as complex as the multicolor blue/green LED fiberoptic lighting used on the other new models.
I noticed the lighting wasn't as evenly distributed on the MA6300 as those with the fiber optic diffuser. It looked similar to the incandescent bulbs used in the past. Is this new LED lighting technique going to be used on all future models or just the entry level ones?
The production MA6300 will be very smooth in its lighting. We made a last minute change on the CES model as it was just a prototype. Pre production units never look as good as the real deal off the line.
I was just wondering as some inputs were darker than others while some had bright spots. I think LEDs are more directional so either a diffuser is needed or more bulbs used to cover the same area? So is this the new method for all models or just the entry level ones or maybe all new models except the premium line? I think I may hold out for a C2200 replacement though. Might be a long wait?
