New member from Northern California, Hello all

Hi, back!

Great response to
that "nudge" by Cat.

Do some homework as to
what your SX-727 is selling
for pricing or to pick up
a relative new one.

And consider that audio
bench work can be
pretty pricey...then there's
availability of parts.

By the way, nice doggy!

What brought me here was that I was thinking about a reciever I have that I bought new in ’73. At Playback stereo in the Chicago area.
It is a Pioneer SX 727. I hardly ever used it as I moved a lot through the years. I haven’t plugged it in since ‘85. I would like to get it serviced if needed. It worked the last time I used it back then. It’s been in a box in a closet since, ‘85. I would like to get referals to someone that works on these.
It has sentimental value to me. I am afraid to plug it in. I know it’s over 50 years old. I don’t know if it’s worth getting serviced. I’ve been checking craigslist for a place to get it serviced, also yelp for whatever that is worth seems like a lot of bad reviews on that site.for any place in the north Bay Area. Thanks for the messages!
I have a workbench of sorts (I take over the kitchen table when needed;)) a variac to provide reduced voltage levels on this type of equipment and access to the service manual and documents through the Hi-Fi engine website. I have worked on electronics, and I am a contemporary of you at 75. If you are close enough to the SF Bay Area and want to drive to Alameda I would be more then happy to take a crack at seeing if it is OK to put into service without further work or look for issues that could cause problems that need to addressed. It would be a first pass at it, but would give you a base line for moving forward. (I do this for a hobby so this would be for a friendly favor not for charge. If I find anything that needed replacing, the cost of the parts I would expect you to pay for. I donate my labor and time.)

If you are too far away, I wish you the best of luck in finding a service pro.
