New : Surrounds in a can.

I really did laugh out loud at that. Agreed on the effort, too bad it's such a terrible idea. Good luck on the cleanup.
Coincidentally, not 90 seconds ago, I posted about some RE30's I picked up last night. Foam looks perfect, no cracks at all.

I wonder why some foams just crash and burn and others of the same make\era seem perfect? I'm guessing the environment. Sun, humidity swings - maybe even salt air near the ocean? I don't really know.

EDIT - those do look like the same tweets and mids as on the RE30's. Near as I can tell, the tweets are sharp\bright and masking the midrange. I might put something in front of mine. A little tape or half a ping pong ball. Anything to keep them from hurting my ears.
I read somewhere ozone tends to destroy the foam?

Here they are nekkid.

This was my second set of refoams, and was a bit of a pain. The inner ring was a bit smaller than the cone and I had to keep pressing them together after they'd pull apart. Took about twenty minutes for each one until the glue was tacky enough to stay together.
The one on the left was done in the pic below, The other is drying, I only had enough clothespins to do them one at a time. It took some pushing of the surround to center the voice coils using the 30Hz method.

I thought I was done, but had forgot to check the black trim rings. They still had old gooey surround stuck to the back. I tried scraping but it just smeared and when I tried acetone it started dissolving the trim rings. I rinsed those off and was able to scrape some more goop out that the acetone had dried out. When there was just a sticky residue left I rubbed it with baby powder.

Here they are. Complete and sounding great. The thump is back and I can hear no scratching.

Oh I love this pic... Should be in the recent thread do you think this hobby is dead.. Hey nothing ventured nothing gained... He now knows this is wrong..

Yep, he fixed that thing good

What's that expression?
If it moves and it's not supposed to, duct tape.
If it doesn't move and it's supposed to, wd40.
OTOH,
Silence is golden. Duct tape is silver.
If I had a bad day before I pulled that grill the seller would be duct taped1115b77f8ca347b84e517444db3a2c43--duct-tape-funny-best-funny-pics.jpg

I can understand how duct tape could make a capable surround. DIYers used to make leather surrounds and it reportedly could work well, depending on the driver.

Don't let your brother work on your car! I recently found that heating up a putty knife hot, will remove goo & stick'em much faster. Acetone is nasty stuff. Anyway, you did a top shelf job, nice.....
