New to TT Scene, I need help!

I recently acquired a nice Pioneer PL-550. The turntable needs a new headshell, cart, and stylus... What should I look for and stay away from? The arm is also loose is this TT even worth messing with?

I would be concerned about the tonearm being loose. Where is it loose? Is it loose where the tonearm pivots up and down? The bearings may be worn, but there may be a way to tighten them. I don't have any experience with that particular table, I'm sure some of the other folks do and will chime in before long.

What on the tonearm is loose? Like it's loosely connected to the rest of the turntable?

It's loose at the base where the stand meets the deck.

See page 15 of the service manual.

There are screws and nut that holds the tone arm stand in place (under the plinth).

They need to be check and tighten. :yes:
