NHL Hockey Fans

This a thread on NHL!! Start your own thread

Hi rcs16,

Down here in the "AudioKarma off topic forums" I do not enforce strict thread purity, as this area is supposed to have a friendly neighborhood Bar type of atmosphere. Now "upstairs" in the devoted audio sections, sure, it ain't right to go on in the Marantz forums about your Pioneer equipment, but here we have a nice little conversation about Hockey goin on, and if it drifts to other types of Hockey than the original NHL theme that's perfectly fine with me ;)

PS, while of course I hope the Bruins win tonight, either team that wins it will have earned it, and deserves the respect that their work will have earned them

Not being a jerk or trying to antagonize

The old "Home Ice" advantage theory often gets bandied about, some believe it's a definitely a difference maker while others do not put too much credence into it.

In last nights game winning goal the believers were proven right. Knowing your home boards, corners etc and how the puck plays off of them was in full display in that game winner.

From a purely hockey fan perspective that was a calculated knowledgeable decision and great example of "Home Ice" advantage.

Great game, great series

Yes they do. 12 goals in 7 games is terrible and the reason they lost.

Hi Snappahead,

I guess we can respectfully agree to disagree here. I don't see shame, or any kinds of shameful spanking in these stats. Looks like two pretty evenly matched teams had difficulty finding the net to me. The entire series coming down to one goal should be a lot easier for the Leaf's fans to tolerate than had they been blown out say 5 to 1, yes?

Both teams excelled last night but I thought Boston might have had a bit more in the first. I missed most of the second and part of the third as I had to make supper but I thought the Leafs had stepped it up a bit in the latter part of the third I did managed to watch. I should be able to find the highlights I missed somewhere on YT today.

Going into OT in game seven is always exciting and this year it was Beantowns turn to win. I'm not a big Leafs fan like I was many years ago but I have to feel for them a bit going out in the first round. All the big names and salaries don't seem to help them at playoff time. If they had won, it would have been one more Canadian club left to help bring The Cup back home to this side of the border, where it belongs.

Here's the thing...Canadian players make up just under 42% of the NHL (followed by US at 29%). The Cup spends most its time in Canada, no matter who wins! ;)

The real Stanley Cup spends its time in a vault at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto while The Replica is on public display there. The Presentation Cup is the one you see being handed out and passed around after the big win and goes home with the winning club and players. If a US team wins, they get to keep the cup and have bragging rights for a year.

Technically, the Stanley Cup is already in Canada, locked up in a dark vault along with The Replica on display. The Presentation Cup is the one Vancouver or Edmonton needs to bring back home now to have all three of them on home soil.

...and...during that year each player gets to take it to his "home" for a few days or so. Which is why even when an American team wins, it still spends considerable time in Canada...and some time in Sweden, Russia, Finland, Switzerland Germany etc.

The Leafs fall apart every year in the playoffs. They've lost in the 1st round 6 out of the last 7 years. So while I agree that a close playoff series is not out of the ordinary, their playoff record is not good. And they seem to fall short offensively every year after scoring a ton during the regular season. I am not a Leafs fan but it appears they just aren't built for the playoffs. I'm guessing they make some radical changes this off season.

Toronto is arguably the toughest NHL city for a franchise to exist in. Comparable (perhaps?) to being a Premier Football League team in or around London. The media scrutiny is unrelenting, and the fans have the highest expectations notwithstanding the realities of the team itself. Not totally unusual in Big Time Sports though.

What Jacob Trouba attempted* to do last night is outright criminal, how the NHL hasn't responded is beyond me.

*Headhunting, intent to injure, launching, extended elbow

The Hurricane player is so lucky that his neck didn't get sliced open.
