Got a pair of Altec Lansing 890C Boleros in trade yesterday. Sweet speakers, but won't displace my SB-7000As.

Hello there, Starting a new thread to detail the new setup of the main system. I've been fiddling with it for the past 9 months since we moved and finally making progress. Lots of storage space, but still rearranging things. The room is a 2 car garage with about 6 feet of extra space on either...

They use Seas Excel drivers. I have those divers in my floorstanders and with the right amplification they are stunning. Joseph Audio uses their drivers too. I wouldn't have let them go, but to each his own.

My guess is the crossovers and cabinets for the Josephs have a better design, despite using the same drivers. The Jamos had a bit of a "boom-sizzle" type signature that was unbecoming of a high end speaker. And I tried them in the old treated room as well as in the garage. The KEF LS50s and Usher BE-718s sounded much better for me in the bookshelf category, just to name a couple. I also have the Linn AV5140s, which bested them as well.

Out of all the speakers you've rotated through, what do you consider the standouts?

And any dreams for the future? What's on your wish list?

I'll start by saying my current setup rotation is: Linn AV5140, Klipsch KG3.5, Monitor Audio RS225, Canton Chrono 70, EV FR-12-2. All are used for a mixture of A/V, except for the EVs, which are my pure music speakers at the moment (trying them out as I just got done cleaning them up and refoaming them a month ago).

The Linns and Cantons are my current favorites, and anchor the two main A/V systems. There are definitely speakers / brands I wouldn't mind having again: KEF, Usher, Polk SDA, Vienna Acoustics, Zu. My next big speaker purchase may be from one of them, also interested to try the new KLH 5 and JBL L100.

Very cool. Lots of exposure.

I would be interested to hear your impressions of the BBC style mini monitors. They sound great and they're a little toyetic - definite appeal for folks who like to handle their gear I think
