How is the Beta people? They are hard to find so I got a Kenwood Basic C1 it was the only one online that I could find that wasn't $400!!My first seperates were a Nikko
Beta I preamp, Gamma I tuner and Phase Linear 400. The Nikko equipment was well built and sounded good too. The tuner was excellent. My first receiver before that was a Nikko 60...something, I can't remember the model number but I do know that my brother still has it!
Nice amp...I am stuck with brand new caps I had for a Citation 19 I just sold ... no soldering they were just the main caps rated for 20,000 hours TDK's from Mouser 100V 10,000uF, when I bought that amp in October somebody had a cap tied to the original to help it out I guess it was weak, the newer cap was smaller in size...the amp was fine but I went and put the new ones in, put the price up to $450 and no one wanted a good ol' amp! But, I prefer my Nikko over it though! Here's my Nikko 6065- had to replace the speaker terminals, did some recapping on the amp board. New led fuse lamps for the panel, new bulb for the stereo detect, made 4 button caps for the input selection. My father and I measured > 30 watts RMS clean, the tuner is excellent- a simple wire hanging off the FM terminal brings in stations clearly that the digital receivers I've tested can barely bring in mono.

Good luck!
I am the same 9 oclock that is loud and clear enough for what I need...I run two sets of speakers SM105's infinity and Bose 301 V's on top of them nice combo good base and full mid and top...but I do not have a Beta pre, I sold a nice yamaha, and just bought a Kenwood Basic C1 so I will soon see...just bought a Yamaha 703 amp, but the money is in escrow because the guy did not know he had 'global shipping on' so I have to wait for the bank to review the refund...just fun tying up my money on the account the guy does not ship to Canada...I told him I would pay another $55 but I guess he won't....bay sucxx now!I have quite a bit of Nikko gear and I would never rate their equipment as 2and tier. I am currently running a Nikko Beta I preamp into a 220 wpc Nikko Alpha I power amp and I seldom put the gain above the 9 o'clock position without getting complaints from the significant other. I really like their equipment. I also have 2 alpha II power amps (black and silver models), a Nikko 130 power amp and a mixture of the preamps, beta ii , beta 20 , beta 50, as well as some of the integrated amps that I need to have serviced. All of the older gear that they made was quality production and still sounds good today. I think later on their quality slipped a bit, but all of the Alpha, Beta, and Gamma tuners as well, were quality products.
Basically, all of the stuff that looks like it is from the seventies and early eighties, with knobs and toggles rather than slide bars and digital readouts, is the good stuff. I have never gone beyond the 1 o'clock position on my beta I when playing music through the Alpha I, and as I said earlier, typically play at the 9 o'clock position which is only 3 clicks from silence.

I like the look...you know I see so many amp...people have actually really taken good care of their stereo stuff...I did a trick when I painted my Citation 19 as it was scratched, I got semi-gloss black in Tremclad, took frog tape and put it over the original stickers on the sides to preserve them and not to paint over them and it made the amp a lot better cosmetically. Here's a TRM-750 amplifier I picked up today. The face plate has just a few scratches, and the wood case is very good. The seller had it boxed up for a few years and it's surprisingly clean inside.
Everything works, but somebody has been inside it. There's a fairly new Omron relay, and one of the temperature compensating transistors on the heatsink has been replaced haphazardly and not glued to the sink. No failure prone parts that I can see other than two tantalum capacitors. The main board is installed at an angle, something I haven't run across before.
I'm going to rebuild it this summer. All that's on Hifi Engine is a basic schematic, so I invested $18 for a top quality reproduction of the complete and very detailed service manual from stereomanuals.com.

Trying a new repair shop today. I dropped off a Denon poa2400 and Was talking with him and he did not have nice things to say about nikko. I was disappointed at what I was hearing. Although I have had 1 of my alpha 220 repaired once. And after sitting a few yrs. acting up.again. Maybe power switch, a second also outa commission and My third I have yet to test recently. They all sit for months or yrs at a time without use.. I plan on getting them all up and running. Anyone else have reliability issues? My alpha 2 went in for Repairs when I acquired. Never had a problem since. Just starting listening to the 450. It's a hello of a mint sounding amplifier.
