Nikko Owners--Show us your stuff!

Nice!! I didn't know that you were looking for a Gamma tuner. I had one that I never use. Great tuners, but who the hell uses them anymore. I plug my notebook computer into my stereo using a nice DAC and stream whatever I want at a very nice level of sound quality. But there is nothing wrong with nostalgia....if you can still find a decent station to listen to :) . Beautiful system. Already commented about the garage.

I'm 95% streaming music just like you, but when I'm working around the garage, I found myself listening to radio for some reason. Which DAC are you using ?:beerchug:

As a veteran I get a 50% from Tidal so I mainly stream from that site. It's high quality stream is in MQA format so I am using a Meridian Explorer 2 which is MQA compatible and has dropped from its initial price of 299 to a shipped price of around 132 bucks if you shop around on Ebay. Great DAC...compact and it has excellent reviews, more importantly, produces wonderful music. Also have an SMSL M8 that cost a bit more.

I had to go all the way back to 2006 to find a pic of a 9095. I wish mine was a little less beat up. Plays like a topgun though! Three speaker outs. Two TT in. Three tone controls for all your mid 70's bells and whistles lol20181231_193202.jpg

I had a near-mint condition 8085 that I sold last year. I bought it from the original owner and enjoyed it, then my dad had it for awhile and then I got it back again last year. Good machine it was. Loved the look of it too, but I had too much stuff, so it had to go. It went to a good home to someone who really likes it, so all is good in the world. I posted pics of it on page 15 of this thread.

Like you (impressive collection by the way) mine will pretty much sit on the shelf as well. The only reason for me to keep is it's TOTL at the time status. Sounds great and pushed my mid-large Infinities as well as the more powerful receivers did IMO. I would like to pass this to someone who can look past the faceplate dents. I did fix the mic level slider.

Yeah, up until recently, I had 40 amps and receivers just sitting around and I just needed to let go of stuff. What I have listed in my signature isn't even a quarter of the stuff I've got, let alone the well over 100 additional amps and receivers I have owned in the past. lol Most of it has been vintage. For the longest time I was buying gear faster than I could sell it and it began to pile up. But the thing is, my 8085 was just sitting around not being used, so I decided to start letting go of stuff so other people could enjoy it. I can only listen to one system at a time, so I just had to let go of stuff I wasn't using.

But for me, as it's always been, it could be TOTL, but if it doesn't sound as good or (preferably) better than what I already own, it gets sold off. For instance, I have a little 15 watt per channel Pioneer SX-434 I bought for $10 that I prefer the sound of compared to the near mint 120 watt per channel SX-1050 I had. The SX-434 stayed and the SX-1050 got sold off. I have a few TOTL receivers I'll be selling off soon.

That 9095 is a cool unit though. I'm sure you'll find someone who'd be happy to own it it. Just make sure you find someone that is really going to enjoy it and appreciate it. Those are the best sales is when you find someone who is grateful to have it. :)

Cheers

Got a great Alpha II but would really like to change out the lights to LED's of a different color, anyone one do this or know of a source?
Thanks much, Rob

Any of you AK folks with the round-button input selector Nikko units need replacements, I can make them- my 6065 was missing a couple. Its hard to match the original finish so I made a full set, now in daily service in the shop. Made of 6061 aluminum bar on the turret lathe, polished to a fine mill finish, so not an aluminum cap on a plastic button but a reasonably close match. The hole in the back is round, sized for a snug fit on the button post. My 1st couple tries were too loose so needed shimming around the post for a snug fit- not glued and easily removed.

Quick to do on the turret lathe, will make small qtys free, if you pay the shipping...

How bout a pic?

My Nikko STA-2010. Works very good and sounds pretty nice. Have never tried the tuner yet. I don't know what the power for this one is but I doubt it is any more than 20W. Not a bad little unit though.
Bryan Anderson
That is the exact model I just picked up at a garage sale Bryan. I figured it was too low power to drive any of my speakers and was going to get rid of it after fixing everything like noisy pots, switches, and burned out lamps. However, I discovered that it has a preamp output in the back. It is an attractive unit when it is all cleaned up and it looks like I have a new preamp for my Crown 810 amplifier. I ran frequency response on it and listened to it perform. I feel lucky to have gotten it and 2 Marantz Imperial 5 speakers for 20 dollars. The designers put a lot of effort into making it look very nice. It just has a 12 volt power supply for the finals, not much power. The service manual says 7 watts RMS per channel. It won't drive my AR speakers but it will make a very nice looking preamp. Of course it has a phono amplifier in it which now days does not happen much. I have some records that a friend wants converted to CDs. It will be easy with this receiver as the preamp. It has a switch in the back to disable the "power amp" :-) I will make use of that switch. You can see the space on the chassis for mounting a larger transformer and other pcbs for their more expensive models. I did notice that the stereo light stays on all the time when switched into FM. The print shows it is very likely a bad IC that drives that light. I do not intend to fix that.

NIkko

So basicly Nikko made good gear......? Compare to bryston/hafler/adcom......?

They did make a very inexpensive model 2010. It is only 7 watts rms per channel. However, the wood case and front panel are very nice looking. Makes a very nice preamp for an amplifier. It has preamp outputs.

Have a 5055 that was given to me some 5-6 years ago.
Turned it on and most of the lights worked.

Plugged the speakers in, one channel not working and after about a minute the channel that was working crackled and blow the driver in my test speakers.
Since then its been siting on the shelf waiting to be repaired.

Tony

Posting here has promted me to go looking for a service manual that I could not find years ago.
Found it, HiFi engine does it again. Time to get it off the shelf and have ago at fixing it.

I wish my 9095 looked that good. Plays nice but beat up enough to darn near earn garage duty.

It was in good shape when I got it. Doesn't show in the photos but I had to put some stain on the wood case. When I got it, it had "Chong's" phone number written with a marker on top.
Magic Eraser got rid of the phone # but took off some finish too.
Now if Cheech had ever lived in Toronto I might've left it :)
