Nikko Owners--Show us your stuff!

He was just commenting On How the Pc boards ? We're made cheaper than say Sony or Denon of that time. I have little knowledge on repair or engineering. Unless he's hoping I'll offer them up to him. I kinda got the impression that nikko wasn't the bigger name brand. I happen to like their amps. Also have a 130 on loan along with a preamp that was just so so.
Oh I see...they are under rated I am very happy with the two Nikko's I own, I am going Yamaha for a bit so I am releasing it soon, I am keeping the 130 because I need to correct the stupid mistake I made ... tried to take one of the binding posts off to replace the one black one that rotted off (the material not the screw) and it was a nightmare as I am not tech either but like to try!! Just a bit pricey, so there goes a mint 130, but as a project I will try to make an upgrade set of binding posts!

Trying a new repair shop today. I dropped off a Denon poa2400 and Was talking with him and he did not have nice things to say about nikko. . . . .

Shhh! The stuff will stop being a bargain.

The Nikko TRM-750 I just picked up has a big, heavy transformer and a thick black aluminum heatsink, very similar in design and thickness to my old Marantz 2230.

The chassis flexes a little when you pick it up catty-corner w/o top and bottom covers, which not ideal. I compare every chassis I come across to my Sansui 555a and 777a, but they were late '60s to very early 70s. The TRM-750 was late 70's.

And just going by published physical specs and online photos, when you compare the TRM-750 to the Kenwood KA-7100, it's [EDIT: the TRM-750] a little lighter overall, but the Kenwood heatsink doesn't look as robust, and the Kenwood has PITA switch arms.

I have only listened to the TRM-750 for a few minutes, so I am not claiming that it's the equal of the KA-7100, but I wouldn't be shocked if it was.

Hey guys!

After all these years, I have finally found a reference on the web about the rare STA-70 I used to own!

http://audiosharing.com/review/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/STA70.jpg

I do have a photo of it, but it's so poor that I shan't bother putting it up. (Although I have posted it on here before.)

No idea if they were officially sold in England at that time, or whether somebody brought it back from Hong Kong (for example), along with the Nivico SRP-467 turntable that was with it. (Both items were chassis-only, as if they'd been removed from a console of some sort.)

Would love to know if any of these still exist! Pics?

Anyone care to do a translation from Japanese?

Rich

STA 501-S. Works well, needs lamps and a good scrubbing. Cute little guy.

When I met my wife [1978], she had her own system, and continued to keep one until a couple of years ago.
The central component was a Nikko Nr-615 [her amp!], one of the lower end units.
It was in use for almost 40 years continuously until it finally developed a hum.
During all that time, I only ever had to clean the pots and switches a few times.

I still have it. Still has the original fuses in it. All the lights still work.
I really should recap/service it. Seems only fair after such long and faithful service.

Here is my just rebuilt TRM-750 integrated amp, now happily snuggling up to my old faithful, every day NT-850 tuner. I just sold my NR-819 receiver, maybe the best sounding receiver I have ever heard. Hated to see it go, but I wasn't using it.

I'm duplicating my post because Dr. Fuse and myself have similar devices only mine are in 2 different rooms. My NIKKO 6065 true 34 watts ,like I said real receiver watts not avr divided b/s and really puts out w/ pushing my JBL g-200 which are way better than my long gone and horrible JBL 2060 book enders. The NAD GOES W/ MY 2CHL GEAR IN MY MAIN SYSTEM IN THE LIVING ROOM.IMG_4433[1].jpg IMG_4427[1].jpg

I have the Alpha 230, and the Beta and Gama 30. Paid under 150 for it all. There's an Alpha 1 and Beta 1 on CL in my area for $400, I'm thinking on jumping on it. Thoughts? Both units seem to be in good condition, and he has a pair of AR 90's he'll let me demo them with.

EDIT I'm running Vandersteen 3's primarily, so I could use the extra 100WPC

I have and Alpha I and the Beta I. I used them for a number of years before replacing them with tube phono stage and a tube amp that takes inputs from 3 components. I have the phono stage and a usb dac in use in 2 sets of inputs right now. The Nikko Alpha I and Beta I are excellent values. I think that the pair is well worth 400 dollars if they are in good shape. The amp is 220 watts per channel and it is a beast. I seldom went past 9 o'clock on the volume setting of the attached Beta I. The sound is also excellent. In my opinion Nikko and Optonica are two "under the radar" brands that deserve more accolades than they have received. I think that they score high in both style and substance. The Alpha I does not have dials or buttons. It can only be turned off and on via an ac adapter that also has an on/off switch on it. Or you can leave it on 24/7. I never did max out the volume button when using the Alpha I as my power amp. It truly is a beast. The Beta I is a very versatile preamp that should handle most of what you need. If you use MC carts you will need to use an SUT. I ran an SUT into my tube phono stage and then into an aux or cd input on the Beta I. It worked flawlessly and sounded wonderful. The Beta I does have tone defeat if you want to use it. I always ran with tone defeat on.

Ha......nice.....I wish my garage looked like that! Enjoy the Nikko components. They are an exellent value!
Hhh... dont be fooled, that is the ONE small area of the garage where it doesn't look like a disaster zone. Yup, enjoying the Nikkos very much. Just can't blast the music past 9pm as my daughters room is directly above the garage :music:
