Nixie tube clock 1950's cold war replica

Sorry for a little break. we have bought a house and whatnot. I didn't have computer. But let's not waist any more time and get on with it!

Final assembly:
Prototype hardboard front panel taken off and ready for installation of a real aluminium CNC machined panel.

First installing connectors which are mounted from outside and screwed from inside. Cables have to come through the panel.

Acrylic display cover attached and ready to be screwed to tube assembly

Fixed with M4x16mm slotted stainless steel screws. I use stainless steel screws only and it looks great and is durable. Besides, this is cost no object project! Tube assembly and display cover are attached to front panel.

Hammond 7" rack handles - chrome finish, just like in good old times.

All buttons and switches installed, apart from Alarm NOS Bakelite chicken head knobs and BNC covers. Looks great already!

Side view of wiring. And this is one of my cock-ups. I have been twisting wires in the beginning to keep them uniform, to later realize, that it's quite unpractical and ugly. At least for a big looms of cable.

Big fat 3" full range speaker instead of a puny piezo buzzer should gimme a nice rich post-apocalyptic alarm sound :)
Riveted to chassis in just two points.

Rear view of wiring. I suppose this is as good as it gets - next time less wiring, more PCB :)

Detail of riveted speaker driver.

Rear panel cover made of 2mm Aluminium with installed IEC socket with rocker switch and 3A fuse. I've nicked stickers from old Bush Radio to give it more authentic look.
To remove stickers (and this applies even for old vinyl covers), you use lighter fluid and then double sided tape to stick it back to panel.

Hey,glad you're back!! :)

Ain't it funny how life and responsibilities get in the way of the stuff that we actually want to do,eh?

Nice to see this progressing once again:thumbsup:

HAHA...... that buzzer sounds like some sort of launch warning! If I heard that in the morning, I'd expect the cave roof to open in preparation for the missile launch and James Bond to come running through to try and stop it!
