Maybe the same reason I missed a $300 Yamaha B-2x I was watching and never put a bid on, then the buyer bagged on and now after contacting the seller he wants 700 private for, or the $99 Yamaha A-1 I was watching and never snipe bid on. Market is down, people are greedy hungry for cash but summer is here and people are out having fun. Who knows.

That 1980 has been re-built from top to bottom, a very nice example! He is a member here, and a straight-up guy. :thmbsp:
While I'm a big proponent of sniping if I see an item with a low starting bid that has no bids I'll always put in something to just "hold it". Doesn't mean that the seller cant't cancel for some other reason ("the dog ate my SX-1980") but it's a start.
Then snipe at the end.
And I've bought an item from the seller and he is a very reliable dude.

I`ll actually be up in Fairbanks Sat night if anyone wants me to check it out. I also know of another SX-1980 in a shop right now, not sure what it needs or if it`s even for sale though.
I didnt want to reply to this thread until this receiver had been sold but it has been safely shipped and has found a new home in Winsconsin and the buyer is very pleased and so am I that it arrived without a scratch and that he is happy. :yes: I will see if I can get him to send me some pics of it in its new home up and running.

Yes it was sent via FedEx I put 5k insurance on it because it seems that is the point where a package gets a different level of care. It was trucked to Anchorage then went to chigago by plane then trucked to Winsconsin from there so it wasnt handled numerous times. Also the final box was huge roughly 36" X 30" X 16 and weighed roughly 95lbs. I thought the odds were good considering the weight and size that few people would be able to pick it up and toss it around. I also wrote fragile on it on the top bottom and all sides which may have helped.
Shipping was very reasonable IMHO $149.96 for a 95 lb package and 5k insurance to his front door.

Always glad to here these things going well, and not ending in catastrophe. The key is proper packing and it sounds like you did it right. I also prefer to use FedEx, at least my local delivery/pickup driver takes great care with my packages.
Here's my under 40 packing, over 40 goes into a double or triple wall double boxed setup. I re-use server packing from work, the stuff is amazing.
Here's a 95lb amp I shipped only one state away. This was double boxed and also included a piece of plywood on the bottom. I reused a SAN storage disk shelf box from work. I think the weight was 119# when I got done, less than the OE shipped in it.
Very nice work Brutal 1st class :yes: I look at it this way do unto others. There is little worse than getting your new toy only to discover it is broken.
Here is a few pics of a Marantz 2270 I shipped to a fellow a little while back, the first pic shows it bubble wrapped with extra loose bubble wrap laying on top so it fits tight inside the first box, it may look like it is loose in the first box on the sides but that dark color is actually black medium density foam
then a pic of the first box inside a much larger second box, then with foam to protect the first box one more piece of blue foam goes on top and finally the finished product in the new owners living room..
