Obscure TV Show Theme Songs or TV Themes you have not heard in ages

OK, so we all know popular Theme music from, say, "The Andy Griffith Show", or perhaps even "The Twilight Zone".

But what about shows that were obscure or one season hit wonders?

This morning, I'm watching "Top Gear" on BBC America - The British show, not the American show. No offense to us Americans, but the Brits have this show nailed and it blows away our version here in the States.

During one segment they start to play a TV Show Theme song that I have not heard since about 1967. As soon as I heard it I was taken back to a hot summer night, windows open, crickets cricketing, sitting next to my father watching one of his favorite shows. Luckily I remembered it had to be one of my Father's favorite shows or I may have never come up with it.
I had to really concentrate to guess at the title. I had not heard that Theme music in 45 years. Then it hit me. "The Time Tunnel".

I had to wonder how many other obscure TV show theme music titles I had forgotten about that I have not heard in 30 or 40 years? Any you can think of?

Callan here in the uk was not obscure but had a very distincive theme tune which edward woodward recorded on his album; this man alone.

That recording is obscure !

Speaking of the UK, my Father also liked "Dr. Who" when it finally came to the States. First on our Public Television and then on BBC America. That theme does not seem to have changed in decades. I bet most Americans don't know it at all.

BBC America is one of my very favorite networks lately. Between "Top Gear" and "Something Royal" I am very entertained. :)
 
Of course, as a Louisianian, the best theme show is Tab Benoit's "Shelter Me" from "Sons of Guns". :)

Maybe not obscure, but as reality TV, it should be! The song (and the rest of the album) is great though!
 
I watched the original "Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy" many times before I realized the theme music was Journey Of The Sorcerer by The Eagles.

Just last week I encountered "Believe It Or Not" by Joey Scarbury on the radio - anyone remember a silly show called "The Greatest American Hero"? The song was much better than the show.

The Dr Who theme was cool, maybee not obscure but i always liked "Secret Agent Man" by Johnny Rivers.

The AG "Fishin' Hole Song" was written by Earle Hagen who also wrote themes for:

Make Room For Daddy, The Dick Van Dyke Show, I Spy, That Girl and The Mod Squad....

...and Harlem Nocturne...

Just sharin'.....

One of my favorite theme songs is the one for "Reilly, Ace of Spies" that is as hauntingly perfect for the time period and storyline...very reminiscent of Meditation/Thais Theme by Massenet.

Now that's a blast from the past.

We had that show here in the US for a while. Circa 1973 ish? My father and I would watch it. We both loved SciFi.

I remember it was a fairly "sexy" show for the US at the time. And I remember the elusive Aliens whom you never saw, only the spinning space ships. I had totally forgotten the theme until your post. Thanks.
 
Always liked the theme to a VERY obscure show from the early eighties, "Tucker's Witch". Starred Tim Matheson & Catherine Hicks, as a husband/wife detective team, & SHE was a Witch, ala Samantha.
