Just discovered this thread (thanks enginedr for bringing back to the top) - I used to participate in the alt.fan.frank-zappa group way back in the day. My first listen was Apostrophe back around 1975 and I was hooked. I saw him twice, the 1976 or 1977 tour and the 1988 big band tour. I own most of his catalog, at least the stuff issued when he was alive, although I like the late 60's early 70' stuff best.

I'm just now discovering this thread. I've been a Zappa fan since I was 17 or 18, I'm 67 now. A guy I used to work with at a restaurant, James Keith Holmes, turned me on to Frank around 1976. I have 49 of the 62 albums he released while he was alive and 9 of his posthumous albums. I've seen him in concert three times and Dweezel three times at Zappa plays Zappa concerts. My first Zappa album was The Mothers at Filmore East but I remember hearing Muffin Man before that on the radio and thinking this guy is so different than anything else I've ever heard. Little did I know then! I got married in 1981. As I was walking my future wife back up the aisle of the church, I whispered to her "I got the tickets to the Zappa concert!" She was not impressed, she was a big Barbara Steisand fan. When Studio Tan was released, I listened to Greggory Peccary and didn't like it too much. Recently I've been listening to it and I now think it is one of his most musical pieces not to mention the humor in it. But it was (and still is) his guitar work that most amazes me. I've been listening to all the variations of Watermelon in Easter Hay on You Tube lately. A beautiful compostion as you Zappa freaks already know.
 
Steve Bro I have about 60 Lp's and 30 CD's.

My favourite album is "Civilization Phase III". It is Frank's legacy. Absolutely moving.

Civilization Phase III is a challenge. It is some sort of Contemporary Classical music mixed with other music genres. There are "Lumpy Gravy" elements in it, including the "psychotic turkey". Read the Wikipedia info in order to get a first idea of it.
 
I've had the ZPZ DVDs for some time but today is the first time I've sat down and watched/listened to them. I've listened to the ZPZ CDs several times but seeing them play is just awesome! I've got several more Zappa DVDs that I haven't watched for years that are on my list of things to do.

Good for you that you came around to Studio Tan, the interplay between George Duke & Frank on RDNZL is epic!!!!, Frank's guitar intro gets me every time.

Muffin Man is a great solo vehicle for Frank where he really let it rip not to mention the the humorous lyrics describing what a Muffin Man is.

If you're into Franks "Conceptual Continuity" you'll realize by the end of Joe's Garage, the album, that Joe with everything he went through devolved into being a Muffin Man

This was my first Zappa bootleg. Acquire a multi gen Cass in the mid-80's, This is a digital transfer from the master tape, I acquired in the late 90's. As per the cover info this really is an audience recording, but I've seen it posted as a sbd more than once. I had a problem with the date format when I made these covers.

The FZ Youtube Channel has just uploaded a 1974 concert/TV special called "Cheeper Than Cheap" which has never been previously released.

My understanding is that it will be up in it's entirety for the next 72hr's
