Official AR Turntable Owners Thread

Hey all, I have an AR XB in good shape and a custom maple plinth made by my dad to the same dimensions as the original plinth. I’m planning on swapping the maple plinth in, but wanted to ask first if anyone has any words to the wise about that process — is there a way to keep everything more or less attached to the black metal top (other than the platters and belt), or does a project like this require full disassembly? I would really like to avoid messing too much with the tone arm, the RCAs, or anything all that delicate.

Remove the platters and pull out the tonearm and secure it to the top plate with painter's tape. Put foam ear plugs into the bearing wells so you don't loose the ball bearing and the oil doesn't make a mess. Now you can turn the turntable upside down on three cans of soup or quart size paint cans. Now you can work from the bottom up. You should be able to remove the base and prep the new one to fit as a drop in replacement. Take lots of pictures as you work so you have something to reference.
 

I’m not sure if this has been previously posted here. I definitely don’t agree with how he’s saying that majority of the AR turntables (and Thorens for that matter) are trash. A little TLC and some mods can certainly transform our old ARs.

And the thing is that we are somewhat used to all of the apartment noises. The people who were in that apartment before this guy were a bit loud as well. You could tell when they were watching TV or listening to music. But it never got that loud. We learned to deal with it. When they moved out we were happy. Then this guy came along. LOL. Management really needs to read new tenants a statement of some sort clearly saying that loud disturbances will not be tolerated. It's in the lease but of course most people don't even read what they are signing. I do. I read every word on every page...

The neighbor upstairs has a dog that runs around and you can hear that all of the time. But that is just background noise at this point in time. I think that guy also allows his dog to go piss on the balcony. Now that is going to smell wonderful over time. Good thing we don't use our balcony.

I should have said "you can now remove the top plate from the original base and prep the new one". I'm sure you would have figured it out.

Particularly when he discusses the thrust plates. Hey! They are replaceable! He’s trying to sell new Linns so everything else will be trash.

If it wasn't for edgar villchur there wouldn't be any Linn Turntables

My new to me AR-XB, works great with no record but not so much when loaded.
I verified level and lubed the motor. Suspension issue?

 
STOP doing that! The outter platter is hitting on the motor spindle. You keep letting it hit the spindle and you're gonna bend the shaft, if not already. Adjust the the suspension so you have about a 1/4" between bottom of platter and top plate.
