Old Large Advent Speakers?

I talk to much.
what just cause Dave agrees with you?

And Dave the proud owner of a passel of fully rebuilt vintage receivers...some bigger than the others. And quiet enjoying as they were built and punting anything that doesn't work right. Glad he hasn't had to punt anything much.

Yeah, but you HAVE so much to opine on ...
He does have a really big pile of midrange vintage receivers. That is a lot of different company sounds to enjoy and comment about.

hey guys, so I've got some bad news...

I'm pretty sure the tweeters are blown (I put my ear against them and can't hear anything) and also one of the speakers is making a slight buzzing sound when the bass is too loud. I'm not sure how to fix the latter, maybe it's the caps? But the tweeters will probably need replacing.

Should I just return them or should I ask the seller to reimburse me for new tweeters?

Also how much would new tweeters cost?

I do like the way they sound, and I feel that with new caps, tweeters, and excising that obnoxious buzz, they'd sound superb

If the woofer needs foam it could buzz but it might also be the sound of a damaged driver. I would get a refund if possible and move on. To many speakers that you will come across will be ones that you do like the sound of, without all that extra work!

Yeah you're right, there are too many speakers to try out and I'm really not trying to put in all the extra work on this set, even though I'm sure they sound really nice when fully working.

And so the hunt continues...

First...What is the least expensive "new" 12" three way, with real wood veneer, you can buy today?

Buzzing is most likely the old glue on the cardboard and foam at frame perimeter. Can be fixed.

Pull tweeters and put a multi meter to 'em to see if they are blown. If so...sleazebay.

Ok I'll see what I can do with the buzzing, and I'll measure the tweeters when I get the chance.

If that doesn't work out, I can still get a full refund, but I'm still leaning towards the latter because I found a pair of Marantz Imperial 6's near me for around the same price and that honestly sounds like an even better combo than the Nova 8's with my SX-990
